Matthew O'Regan has picked out his best bet builder selections for the Newcastle vs West Ham game on Monday Night Football.
20:00 Monday
Jarrod Bowen Shot On Target
Fresh off of his first England goal, Jarrod Bowen returns to captain West Ham. The 27-year-old is the Hammers’ main man, and their hopes of a result will be pinned on him.
He has been in impressive form this season, scoring three goals and registering two assists. Bowen has also only been subbed off three times this season, with the earliest coming in the 73rd minute against Aston Villa, so he should be guaranteed 90 minutes.
Bowen is averaging 1.11 shots on target per 90 this season and has hit a SOT in 10/13 games. Newcastle have conceded the seventh most shots per game in the league (14.45).
Alexander Isak To Score
Alexander Isak has been a revelation since signing for Newcastle. The 25-year-old scored 10 Premier League goals from 17 starts in an injury-ridden debut season, before scoring 21 goals in 27 starts last season for an average of 0.83 goals per 90. Isak was also performing in alignment with his xG, averaging 0.81 xG per 90, showing that his goalscoring form is sustainable.
With Callum Wilson injured, a lot of the onus has been on the Swede to provide the attacking impetus. So far this season he is averaging 0.47 goals, 3.06 shots and 1.30 shots on target per 90 in the Premier League. Isak is also on a four-game scoring streak for Newcastle, scoring against Chelsea, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in the league and Chelsea again in the cup.
The 25-year-old was also impressive on international duty, scoring and assisting in the 2-1 win over Slovakia, before having a goal harshly ruled out against Azerbaijan. Against a West Ham side with just two clean sheets all season, Isak will fancy his chances of making it five consecutive goal-scoring returns.
Lucas Paqueta Over 1.5 Fouls
Lucas Paqueta has captured the hearts of West Ham fans with his samba style of play and silky footwork. However, his tenacity and dogged determination has also caught the
eye, with the Brazilian booked in 10 of his 31 Premier League starts for The Hammers last year.
This season, he has averaged 1.99 fouls per 90, picking up four yellows. The 27-year-old has made at least two fouls in three of his last four starts and six of his 10 starts.
Paqueta will play central midfield on Monday and will be tasked with dealing with a lively Newcastle midfield containing Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.
Guimaraes has been fouled 3.38 times per 90, drawing at least two fouls in every game. On top of this, Tonali has been fouled 2.64 times per 90, with Joelinton fouled 2.64. Paqueta should have his hands full, and it would not be a surprise to see him rack up the fouls again.
Newcastle Win
Newcastle United currently sit 8thafter back-to-back wins against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. Eddie Howe’s team have been impressive at home, winning three, drawing one and losing one of their five home games. The one loss was the 0-1 defeat to Brighton – a game in which the Toon Army accumulated 2.02 but failed to score.
West Ham went in a new direction in the summer, appointing former Julien Lopetegui as a new manager after an eventful spell at Wolves. The 58-year-old has failed to adorn himself to the Irons’ faithful with his side sat in 14th. With Mohamed Kudus suspended, Newcastle may fancy their chances of beating West Ham as they did last season.
