West Ham vs Chelsea

Friday night’s London derby at the London Stadium sees two sides under pressure far earlier than they’d like.

West Ham were humbled 3-0 at Sunderland on the opening weekend, a result that immediately sharpened the focus on Graham Potter’s shaky start in East London.

The Hammers have won just twice in nine home league games under his watch. Chelsea, meanwhile, don’t really have the same sort of pressure but fans will be wanting a response after Enzo Maresca’s side looked flat in a goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

They dominated possession but lacked any sort of end product, which was the whole point about their new signings. It’s early days though and this Chelsea team does look like they have a lot of potential if they get it right. History leans Chelsea’s way here; they’ve won the last three meetings and eased to a 3-0 win here last season.

Over 3.5 Cards

With West Ham desperate to make a statement and Chelsea keen to avoid another sluggish start, this derby has all the makings of a heated game. Michael Oliver takes charge and he was the third most card happy referee in the league last season (among refs with 6+ games), averaging 4.85 cards per match.

Recent history also points towards a busy night for the officials, each of the last four meetings between these sides has produced at least four cards. Chelsea games in particular have a habit of boiling over and that trend looks unlikely to change here.

Joao Pedro Anytime Goalscorer

Joao Pedro has seemingly won the hearts of Chelsea fans already in his brief time there. The Brighton fan favourite was deployed as more of a 10 role; however, he’s more advanced under Maresca acting as the sole forward.

He’s scored three times in his first three starts and to add to this, it’s even better for bettors as major bookies including bet365, Paddy Power, Betfair, Sky Bet and William Hill are running their “super sub” offer meaning if Pedro is taken off, his replacement carries the bet. In Chelsea’s case, that’s likely to be Liam Delap who was clinical in front of goal last season.

Jarrod Bowen Shot On Target

With Kudus departing in the transfer window, the responsibility on Jarrod Bowen’s shoulders has grown significantly. He’s been West Ham’s standout performer by some distance and with Füllkrug struggling to make an impact, Bowen has often shifted into a more central role boosting his shooting output.

The England international has registered a shot on target in 11 of his last 12 starts, yet the market still has him close to evens just to hit the target once. That looks like a price worth jumping on given his form and importance to the Hammers’ attack.
