Tip 1: Coventry vs Blackburn – Coventry win and over 1 goal – 4/5 - 1 point

In what has been a fairly subpar Championship season so far, Coventry City have been the clear standouts. The Sky Blues sit top of both the underlying metrics and, most importantly, the league table. Frank Lampard’s side have been relentless, averaging three goals per game with emphatic scorelines including 3–5, 7–1, 3–0, 0–4, and 0–5 victories. With an abundance of attacking talent at his disposal, the 47-year-old has crafted a dynamic, free-flowing side - and the results have more than justified his approach.

Blackburn, meanwhile, appear to be sleepwalking towards relegation after a poor summer of recruitment. Many fans have reached the end of their tether with the Venky’s long and often shambolic ownership. The departures of several key and experienced players have left Rovers short of the quality required to compete for the play-offs.

Instead, they look destined for a relegation battle, sitting 21st and just a point clear of the drop zone. Valérien Ismaël faces a major challenge to lift his squad ahead of this daunting test - Coventry have scored 12 goals in their last three matches and completed the double over Blackburn last season with a 5–0 aggregate scoreline.

Tip 2: Cardiff vs Reading – Cardiff Win and over 1 goal-5/6 - 1 point

Years of neglect off the pitch have finally caught up with Cardiff City, who find themselves relegated to League One for the first time in 22 years. On Saturday, they host a struggling Reading side at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Relegation has brought an opportunity for a fresh start in the Welsh capital. Several high earners have been moved on, while academy graduates are being given the chance to shine under youth-focused manager Brian Barry-Murphy.

Cardiff currently sit third in the table, just two points behind leaders Stevenage. At home, they’ve been strong — collecting 12 points from six matches, winning four and losing two. One of those defeats came against Bradford, despite the Bluebirds generating 2.03 expected goals (xG). The other, a 0–1 loss to Burton, was similarly frustrating, with Cardiff posting 2.62 xG to the Brewers’ 0.68. Their other home outings have been far more dominant, producing scorelines of 4–3, 4–0, 3–0, and 2–1 — underlining their strength at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Rumours are swirling that a defeat on Saturday could spell the end of Noel Hunt’s tenure at Reading. The Royals currently sit 21st in the league, having drawn their last three games 1–1. Away form continues to be a major concern — Reading are yet to win on the road this season, conceding 10 goals in six games

Tip 3: Rotherham vs Leyton Orient – Over 2.5 Goals – 4/5 – 1.5 points

I had the pleasure of watching Leyton Orient in action on Saturday as they swept Doncaster aside with an emphatic 4-0 win. The dynamic duo of Dom Ballard and Aaron Connolly were a constant menace to the Rovers’ defence, running riot throughout the match.

Orient were fast, direct, and ruthless in attack, leaving the Donny backline struggling to cope. However, Richie Wellens’ side were far too open defensively and proved easy to play through. Had the visitors been more clinical in the final third - whether with the last pass or a decisive touch -they could easily have grabbed at least one goal.

This open, expansive style has been a hallmark of Orient’s season. No team has seen more away games with three or more goals (five out of six), while only Bradford have featured in more matches surpassing 2.5 goals (eight of twelve).

Rotherham should be the ideal opponents for this attacking approach. The Millers thrive on counterattacks and set pieces -two areas where Orient have shown vulnerability. In fact, the O’s rank as the league’s worst side at defending set pieces, which could hand Rotherham a golden opportunity. The Millers also rank third for games featuring three or more goals.

Matt Hamshaw’s side remain mired in the relegation zone and are desperate for wins. All signs point to an open, end-to-end contest in Yorkshire - one that should deliver plenty of goals.

Tip 4: Luton vs Mansfield – Mansfield Double Chance – 13/10 – 1 point

Perhaps there’s a touch of bias in this pick after investing my pre-season stocks in Mansfield, but The Stags look well-placed to cause an upset in Bedfordshire.

Back-to-back relegations have seen Luton tumble back into League One, and a poor start to the campaign cost Matt Bloomfield his job. In his place comes Jack Wilshere - the 33-year-old taking his first steps into management, tasked with reigniting the Hatters’ push towards the play-offs.

It’s been a sluggish return to the third tier for Luton, who began brightly with two wins but have since collected just ten points from their next nine matches. Under Bloomfield, the football was often tepid and predictable, so Wilshere will be eager to inject fresh energy and attacking intent into his new side.

In contrast, Mansfield are led by one of the most seasoned managers in the EFL. Nigel Clough, now in his 27th year in the dugout, has guided his team to 12th -just a point behind Luton. The 59-year-old recently shifted from his usual 5-3-2 to a more progressive 4-2-3-1 setup, and the results have been encouraging: four points from the last two outings.

With Wilshere’s managerial inexperience going up against Clough’s decades of know-how, experience might just prove decisive at Kenilworth Road.

Tip 5: Chesterfield vs Fleetwood – Chesterfield over 1 goal – 4/5 - 1 unit

This year, the inconsistencies have persisted - though, as ever, they’ve been a reliable source of goals.

The Spireites have scored 22 times this season, with 13 of those coming in their six home fixtures. They’ve netted at least twice in four of those six games, failing to do so only against MK Dons (1–1) and Barrow (1–0).

Fleetwood, meanwhile, have endured their own struggles with inconsistency. Only Chesterfield have conceded more than their 18 goals among the division’s top 20 sides. Pete Wild’s men have shipped two or more in each of their last four outings and are without a clean sheet in six. Their only shutouts came on the opening day against Barnet -their first game back in the EFL -and against a Barrow side that played over 80 minutes with ten men.
