Oli Nixon picks out his best bets and tips in the Premier League on Gameweek 15.
With the games coming thick and fast, fatigue is starting to kick in meaning players are more likely to make lazy challenges and so we’re heading to the foul markets and also targeting the worst side in the division in their quest to finally get on the scoresheet under their new boss.
Aston Villa vs Arsenal
Ezri Konsa to be fouled o1.5 times for Aston Villa v Arsenal – 9/4 – Bet365 – 1 unit
In what looks one of most entertaining games of the weekend on paper, league leaders Arsenal travel to Villa Park with the chance to extend their advantage over their rivals before they play. The two meetings between these sides last season produced 52 fouls and so it makes sense to back a player to be fouled and in Ezri Konsa, we have a player who is well adept at just that.
The England defender has drawn 1.55 fouls per 90 across all competitions this season, being caught late at least twice in five of his last seven appearances. He also has an excellent record in this fixture, landing this bet in each of the last three meetings and given that he’ll likely be marking Mikel Merino who commits 2.14 offences per 90, this price feels a particularly generous one.
Tottenham vs Brentford
Cristian Romero to be fouled o0.5 times for Tottenham v Brentford – 5/6 – Bet365 – 1 unit
The Saturday 3pm games involve what could be an absolutely brutal clash between Spurs defender Cristian Romero and Brentford striker Igor Thiago who have had 4.5 fouls involvements per 90 between them this season. Tottenham’s Argentine centre back loves a physical battle and whilst most of his involvements have been fouls of his own, he’s been retaliated against plenty too, drawing an offence in six of his last eight starts across all competitions.
The key to this bet though is that centre backs against Brentford are often heavily fouled with players in this role against the Bees drawing 18 infringements across their last eight matches. As well as the clumsy Thiago, Romero will have to contain Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade and when we consider that trio have combined for 5.43 fouls per 90 between them this season, it’s easy to imagine Romero drawing a single free kick.
Wolves vs Man United (Monday)
Emmanuel Agbadou o0.5 shots for Wolves v Man Utd – 6/4 – Bet365 – 1 unit
As Wolves remain in search of a first league win of the season, they might want to focus on scoring a goal first as they last did so on October 26th against Burnley. If Rob Edwards is to get them firing, he’s likely to focus on set pieces given that his Luton side were renowned for their dead ball threat under his stewardship. He’s made a start on that already with centre back pairing Agbadou and Mosquera taking four shots in their last two games under their new boss. Standing at six foot four, Agbadou is the more imposing aerial threat and with a shot in each of his last two games, he’s clearly being targeted from set plays by Edwards.
In Man Utd, Wolves have a good opponent to prioritise attacking set pieces against as Ruben Amorim’s men have given up six goals from such situations this season. Across the Red Devils last six games, they’ve allowed opposition centre backs to take eleven efforts at goal and with Wolves trying everything they can to find the back of the net, Agbadou can be the one to take advantage of their inability to defend restarts.
