Spain know how to lock out a top quality side but at Wembley I can't see England not scoring.

Spain are unbeaten in 18 and world champions, but this is two teams with an abundance of attacking quality.

England’s World Cup knockout games were high-scoring and chaotic (3-2 vs Mexico, 2-1 vs Norway, 1-2 vs Argentina, 6-4 vs France). They have attacking quality at home in Kane, Bellingham, Saka and Gordon. Spain have elite attackers of their own in Yamal, Williams and Oyarzabal. First game after a long tournament often produces an open contest as both sides try to impose themselves.

Scotland have never lost to Slovenia in five meetings (W2 D3), and Slovenia arrive in shambolic form — one win in their last ten, missed the World Cup, and crucially they're without talisman Benjamin Sesko up top. Slovenia haven't won at home since June 2025.

Croatia hammered them 5-1 in their last competitive meeting. Czechia's World Cup was a horror show (bottom of their group, losses to South Korea and Mexico), and a patched-together squad under a brand-new coach in Santi Denia isn't the profile you back against a Croatia side that's motivated to kick their Nations League campaign off strong before facing Spain twice and England.

North Macedonia vs Switzerland

North Macedonia vs Switzerland — Switzerland Win

Form is night and day here. North Macedonia go into this on a run of L-D-D-L-L, haven't won in five, and are leaking goals - 2.4 conceded per game recently, including a 1-7 humiliation away to Wales.

Switzerland, by contrast, arrive full of confidence at 2-1-0 in recent form and will see this as a straightforward opener before the tougher trip to Scotland.

Murat Yakin's side dropped to League B and will want to make a statement that they don't belong there -Skopje's a tricky away day on paper, but the quality gap is significant enough that I'm happy to back the Swiss to get the job done.
