Ryan Elliott has picked out a tasty 5/1 Monday double!
FC Nurnberg v Hamburg - 2. Bundesliga - 19:30
One result that looks decent value is Nurnberg to beat Hamburg at home.
The hosts were relegated pretty dismally last campaign, but a good 1-0 away win at Dynamo Dresden has started their new season with a flourish.
Hamburg, on the other hand, spectacularly blew their chances of promotion last season, and 15/8 for a home win on Monday just looks generous.
With just one victory from their final nine away games of last season, Hamburg may still be carrying some travelling blues, which is why a Nurnberg victory is tempting.
Huddersfield v Derby - Championship - 19:45
Huddersfield and Derby kick-off their new Championship season on Monday, and it’s the newly-relegated Terriers who I’m backing to claim the points at The John Smith’s.
Jan Siewert wouldn’t have enjoyed the last few months of Huddersfield’s top-flight adventure, but the stability over the summer will serve them well this time around; key players such as Christopher Schindler, Terence Kongolo, Jonathan Hogg, Aaron Mooy (potentially) and Karlan Grant look set to remain at the club, giving me confidence they’ll hit the ground running on Monday.
The Rams, meanwhile, have had a crazy summer: Frank Lampard goes to Chelsea, the young, exciting loanees return to their respective parent clubs and the experienced Phillip Cocu enters the fray.
With a number of injuries also to contend with, Derby’s start to the season could be a slow one – giving Huddersfield the edge at home in this opener.
