West Brom v Millwall

West Brom were exceptional in their season opener at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest, and their 2-1 victory sets them up well for the season.

Millwall registered a solid 1-0 home win against Preston, but I can’t see them having enough to get a result at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies beat Millwall 2-0 in this fixture last year, and considering the Lions lost 15 of their 23 away games last campaign, it’s looking like a step too far for them at this early stage of the season.

West Brom - 1pt @ 10/11

Fleetwood v AFC Wimbledon

Fleetwood are going to be a very good side in League One this year, and I have them beating AFC Wimbledon at home on Saturday.

The Fishermen finished 11th last year, and Joey Barton will look to push for the play-offs this time around. They registered a brilliant 3-1 away win against big-hitters Peterborough in their opener, while Wimbledon fell 2-1 at home against a strong Rotherham side.

These are two sides who have very different ambitions this season, and it’s certainly a fixture Fleetwood will be looking at winning.

Fleetwood - 1pt @ 4/5

Portsmouth v Tranmere

Despite an opening-day defeat to Shrewsbury, I can’t imagine Portsmouth will slip-up against Tranmere at Fratton Park.

Kenny Jackett’s men were unlucky to leave Shropshire empty-handed, and with so much firepower at their disposal, it’s inconceivable that newly-promoted Tranmere—still getting used to life without James Norwood—will have any joy.

Tranmere lost at home to Rochdale last weekend, and while I don’t think they’ll be in relegation danger, getting anything from this game is a massive ask.

Portsmouth - 1pt @ 4/6

Mansfield v Morecambe

My one pick in League Two is Mansfield to beat Morecambe.

The Stags were pre-season favourites for promotion, while Morecambe were one of the big relegation candidates – as they are every season.

Jim Bentley’s side lost 2-0 in their opener at home against Grimsby, and with such a small budget, there’s just no chance they will be able to compete with Mansfield.

The hosts will be delighted with their draw at Rodney Parade against Newport, and a home win this weekend looks a certainty.
