Reading v Cardiff - Championship - 12:00

I’m going straight in with an away victory, where I have Cardiff beating Reading at the Madejski.

The Royals are a poor side – Jose Gomes’ men have lost their first two against Sheffield Wednesday at home and at a pretty ordinary Hull outfit, so this should be a game Cardiff will look to win.

It’s actually been a fairly rocky start for the Bluebirds—who lost at Wigan before beating Luton at home in stoppage time—but I don’t rate this Reading side at all, and a Warnock-inspired away win is on the cards.

Twente v Waalwijk - Eredivisie - 13:30

I have an Eredivisie pick next, backing Twente to beat newly-promoted Waalwijk, who finished 8th in the second division last season!

The visitors have lost their two openers, while Twente beat Groningen away from home after securing a good draw with PSV in their league opener.

This will surely be a comfortable home victory.

Twente - 1pt @ 8/15

St Etienne v Brest - Ligue 1 - 14:00

Hopping over to France, my next pick is St. Etienne to beat Brest at home.

Another newly-promoted side, Brest did secure a creditable draw at home to Toulouse last weekend, but St. Etienne won 13 of their 19 home matches last season, and started their own campaign off with a hard-fought 2-1 away win at Dijon.

The hosts will be too strong at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Sunday.

St Etienne - 1pt @ 13/20

Real Betis v Valladolid - La Liga - 20:00

Finally, we have our La Liga opening weekend!

Real Valladolid ended up surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, but their trip to Betis on Sunday will ultimately prove fruitless.

Scoring just 16 times on the road last season, Valladolid weren’t particularly impressive, and it’s hard to see them bettering a Betis side freshly equipped with Nabil Fekir.

Betis have a talented squad, and though they were inconsistent last campaign, they should get off to a winning start this time around.
