Avai v Internacional - 23:15

This is the last day of barrel-scraping in Brazil, I promise!

European club football returns properly on Friday, but I have a couple of late night picks in Brazil’s top division to get us through until then.

First up, I’m backing an Avai/Draw double chance at home to Internacional. Despite Avai sitting second-bottom and Internacional 7th, a closer look at the sides’ home and away record paints a clear picture.

Despite having the worst home record in the division, Avai have only lost four of their 12 encounters at Estádio da Ressacada; they have also kept five home clean sheets, which isn’t shabby.

Internacional, on the other hand, have only won two of their 12 on the road (losing eight), scoring just nine in the process.

So Avai are a poor side who don’t get beaten a lot at home, while Internacional are woeful on the road, which is why a home win or draw looks a good bet.

Avai/Draw - 1pt @ 3/4

Santos v Ceara - 23:15

The second part of this acca is Santos to beat Ceara at home and under 3.5 goals.

On the face of it, this looks like a fairly routine home win: Santos have won eight of their 12 at home (helping them to 3rd in the league), while Caera have the worst away record in the division – losing nine of their 12.

However, the visitors have not lost a single match by more than a single goal, and all-but one of their encounters on the road have seen under 3.5 goals. They don’t score many, but they haven’t yet conceded more than twice in an away game.

Santos’ last two home wins ended 2-0, so this is likely to be another low-key home win.
