Wednesday's FA Cup double shoots at 4/1!
Newport County v Grimsby - 19:45
The international break is over! While the really meaty stuff is still a few days away, I do have a cheeky 4/1 FA Cup replay double for you all to sink your teeth into.
First up, I have Newport beating Grimsby at Rodney Parade.
The sides drew 1-1 at Blundell Park, and it’s the hosts who certainly have the edge in this replay. The Mariners have recently sacked Michael Jolley, and they’ve now not won a game since September – losing five of their last seven in all competitions.
The nature of the FA Cup (i.e. unpredictable team selection), means the bookies are always a little more generous with their prices, but considering Newport have won five of their last eight home games in the league—as well as their last two home games against Grimsby without conceding—I fancy an Exiles victory at 11/10.
Lincoln v Ipswich - 19:45
Ipswich have a dreadful FA Cup record, and I fancy them to lose against Lincoln at Sincil Bank.
Town haven’t won an FA Cup tie in nine years—with the Imps knocking the Tractor Boys out of the competition in 2016 as a Non-League side—and there’s a good chance this horror-hoodoo will continue.
Paul Lambert’s men lost away at League Two Colchester in the EFL Trophy last time out—perhaps a good indication of what their B-Team is like—while Lincoln beat Rotherham 3-0 in the same competition.
Lincoln have enjoyed the cup competitions, and with three consecutive clean sheets at home, I have a feeling they’ll heap more FA Cup misery on the visitors.
