Blackburn v Derby - Championship
It doesn’t feel like long ago that Tony Mowbray was feeling a little heat as Blackburn manager, but three straight victories have seen his side propel into the top half, and four points off the play-offs.
They’ve also won three consecutive matches at Ewood Park (including great wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford), which is why I’m backing them against Derby.
The Rams have lost their last four away games without so much as troubling the scorers, so I’m taking the odds-against price for a home win.
Bolton v AFC Wimbledon - League One
Next up, I’m backing Bolton to beat AFC Wimbledon at home.
The Trotters’ run of three straight victories was ended by an eye-catching 7-1 defeat at Accrington. However, Bolton were 1-0 up until Josh Earl was set off in the 14th minute, leading to a collapse; as far as I’m concerned, the result would’ve been very different if it remained 11 v 11.
As for the visitors, they’ve lost eight of their nine away games—beating only that atrocious Southend side—so despite Bolton’s recent mauling, a home win is still the result I’m going for.
Grimsby v Swindon - League Two
My final pick is for Swindon to beat Grimsby away from home.
Richie Wellens’ men have won five straight matches, and sit handsomely at the top of League Two. What’s particularly encouraging is their recent away record, which now stands at four wins from their last six – losing only against strong Crewe and Bradford sides.
In their current guise, Grimsby are certainly not a strong side.
The Mariners have just two points from their last six matches, and have also lost three of their last five at home.
My money is with the leaders.
