Wolfsburg look to further their European ambitions against a Bremen side fighting relegation.
Werder Bremen’s survival hopes were given a dent on Wednesday they fell to a damaging 3-0 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt—who themselves were far from safe pre-game—and they have an even tougher assignment next: Wolfsburg.
The visitors themselves lost their last game against Frankfurt in somewhat of a surprise result, but they have won both of their away games since the league’s resumption – against Augsburg and Bayer Leverkusen, the latter being a brilliant 4-1 victory.
In terms of a result, I’m happy backing Wolfsburg at 11/10.
I’ve been really impressed with them since the league’s resumption, and I think they’re capable of causing this Bremen defence (which kept three straight clean sheets prior to the Frankfurt defeat) some real problems.
Bremen defended dead-balls really poorly, and Wolfsburg have a brilliant set-piece taker in the shape of Max Arnold, whose left foot could cause the home defence some serious issues.
Bremen are generally better away from home, and they simply don’t have enough goals in their side (30 in their 29 games this season), to seriously trouble a Wolfsburg defence which is bettered by only four teams in the league (36 concessions).
It won’t be a goal-fest, but Wolfsburg to claim the points looks the value.
Max Arnold already has eight assists this season, and he has one of the best deliveries in the league, with his left foot often causing carnage.
Arnold has two assists in his last couple of games, and Bremen are prime opponents for him to add to his tally against.
Bremen conceded two headers and also from two set-pieces on Wednesday against Frankfurt, and Arnold has the ability to cause chaos amongst their ranks with his flat, fizzed balls.
The Wolfsburg man to get 1+ assists is a bet, but I’m also putting 0.5pts towards 2+ assists, which would net an extra 9pts of profit.
