Southampton vs Middlesbrough

Leg 1: Luke Ayling to Win 2+ Fouls

Best odds of 11/8 at Skybet while publishing.

Luke Ayling has shown a consistent tendency to draw contact, particularly in higher stakes matches. His experience will be key if Boro are to escape St. Marys with a positive result.

He averages 1.47 fouls won per 90 minutes across the season and arrives in good recent form, having won four fouls in the first leg and 12 across his last four appearances overall.

From a tactical perspective, his matchup also looks favourable. With Adilson Malanda stepping into midfield during possession phases, Ayling is likely to spend extended periods defending directly against Cyle Larin, who commits 1.77 fouls per 90 himself. That dynamic could see Ayling regularly engaged in physical duels and involved in drawing free kicks down Southampton’s right side.

Leg 2: Ryan Manning to Win 1+ Foul

Best odds of 8/13 at Skybet while publishing.

Ryan Manning has produced steady numbers in fouls-won markets throughout the campaign, averaging 1.12 per 90 minutes. He recorded at least one foul won in the first leg and is consistent at home, winning a foul in 17 of his last 21 matches at St Mary’s.

Leg 3: Aidan Morris to Have 2+ Shots

Best odds of 15/8 at Betway while publishing.

With Hayden Hackney absent once again, more attacking onus will be on Aidan Morris to drive his side forward from midfield. The American midfielder had two shots in the first leg and will be looking to repeat himself again on Tuesday,

He averages 1.56 shots per 90 minutes, has attempted at least one shot in 21 of his last 24 appearances, and has had two or more shots in 14 of those matches. If Kim Helborg suffocates the Saints with his press again, Morris could be presented plenty of shooting opportunities, especially late on.

Leg 4: Flynn Downes to Commit 2+ Fouls

Best odds of 5/6 at Coral while publishing.

The return from suspension for Flynn Downes was a welcome one. The midfield conductor was booked for a foul, making two in total before Shea Charles also made another off the bench. Downes has made 2+ fouls in 18 of his last 27 starts and will be in the thick of the action once more.

He will be tasked with dealing with Aidan Morris and Alan Browne who win 2.64 and 1.50 fouls p90 respectively, while also dealing with the threat of Tommy Conway (1.52) and Morgan Whittaker (1.37) drifting inside.

Leg 5: Over 4.5 Cards

Best odds of 13/10 at Coral while publishing.

The disciplinary angle also stands out given the circumstances. The first leg produced only two cards, but second legs typically show an increase as urgency and frustration grow. This was evident in last nights playoff fixture between Millwall and Hull, which saw five cards despite a similarly controlled first meeting.

There is also added background tension to this tie following accusations of Southampton spying on Middlesbrough’s training, while the two league meetings between the sides this season produced a combined 12 cards. Both teams average over two cards drawn per 90 minutes and feature multiple players who are regularly fouled, suggesting the potential for a higher booking count here.

Best price for the above Five-Fold Acca is 25/1 at Skybet at the time of publishing. As short as 10/1 at Coral and elsewhere.
