With the tie already over, it's unlikely there will be any fireworks in St Etienne on Wednesday.
St Etienne v Man Utd – Wednesday 17:00, BT Sport Europe
St Etienne were on the receiving end of a thorough drubbing in the first leg of this fixture: Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a hat-trick at Old Trafford to move to 23 goals for the season (no other Man Utd player has reached double figures) and 17 in his career against St Etienne. After a weekend loss to Montpellier, the French side will have to produce an exceptional display at home if they are to dump the Red Devils out of the Europa League.
Man Utd have not been particularly strong away in the Europa League: they lost three of the four matches they played on the road in the competition last year, perhaps reflecting the fact this competition has not historically been a top priority for them. However, they’ve lost only once away from home across all competitions since their defeat by Fenerbahce, so they’ll be feeling optimistic about this one. St Etienne have lost only once at home in Europe since 2014 though, and they’ve drawn four of their last five matches in the Europa League at home, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this one end in a stalemate.
Man Utd are unlikely to expend excess energy in this tie given that they’re fighting for a top-four place, and have a cup final this weekend to think about, so they won’t necessarily go looking for goals. Given that they’ve been poor on the road in Europe and St Etienne tend to draw plenty at home, we’ll back the Draw.
