Northampton v Fleetwood - Saturday 15.00

We had a good start with our League One best bets with Wigan at 3.2 and Fleetwood at 2.4 and we’re hoping that Fleetwood can do the business for us again. They were excellent on the road in the second half of last season and have won nine of their last 12 away matches.

Northampton were fairly adept at beating the lesser sides at Sixfields last term but they picked up only one point from their six home games against top-six opposition. They went down 1-0 at Shrewsbury in their season opener and we could see a similar result here, particularly with Fleetwood so strong defensively under Rosler and Northampton still very reliant on their skipper for goals, the now 35 year old Marc Richards. As a result the Fleetwood win and Under 2.5 Goals looks a great price, while the Trawlermen are a very solid Draw No Bet pick.

Rotherham v Southend - Saturday 15.00

Southend only just missed out on the play-offs last season but after a good transfer window they look set for a big season and they proved that with their opening day win over title favourites Blackburn. Meanwhile, we expect Rotherham to continue to be overestimated by the markets in the early stages of the season and given five relegated Championship clubs in the last 10 League One seasons have suffered an immediate relegation down to League Two, they could be in real trouble this term. They had a dire season in the Championship last year and have lost most of their best players over the summer to boot. We’re backing Southend to win and make it two from two, while they’re available at just over Evens for Draw No Bet.

Blackburn v Doncaster - Saturday 15.00

Blackburn were 5.5 favourites to win League One before the opening game of the season, but they went down to 2-1 at Southend and there looks to have been something of an overreaction to that result as they’re out to 6.5 for title success and 1.91 to beat Doncaster. It was a similar case with Newcastle in the Championship last term as they lost their opening two games before going on to win the title, and we think that Blackburn can kick-start their season with victory here.

Doncaster failed to win their opener against Gillingham, who we fancy to be relegation candidates this term, and since they had the best home record in League Two but only the 5th best away record, this should be a tough assignment for them. They lost four of their six trips to fellow top-seven sides in League Two and having not really made any significant additions to their squad they should struggle at a side of Blackburn’s calibre. We expect them to be left with just the one point from their opening two games.
