Newport v Morecambe - Tuesday 19:45

No matter how precarious Newport’s position has looked over the past few months, it has been taken for granted by many that a manager of Graham Wesley’s calibre can dig them out of trouble. But crisis management isn’t necessarily his forte - in the short term, he alienates more than he inspires - and now relegation for the Exiles is looking extremely likely.

There’s no doubt Westley now has a core of players fighting his corner at Rodney Parade, but is there enough and are they good enough to keep the Exiles up? Saturday’s agonising defeat at Cambridge, in which they led 2-0, only to be pegged back and left crushed by a stoppage-time red card and penalty double-whammy, might well be a microcosm of how their survival bid unfolds.

Now Morecambe, in great mental shape having picked up 15 points from the last eight matches, have a wonderful opportunity to all but secure their Football League status for another year, helping countless others in the process. As a club for whom relegation is a continual threat no matter how well they start a season, don’t expect them to take this game lightly. Back the away win at 13/5.

The quick turnaround should be no problem for Jim Bentley’s men. They had their business done and dusted inside 40 minutes at Crawley on Saturday, making five changes and racing into a 3-0 lead (final score 3-1). With both teams wary of making an early mistakes on the dodgy Rodney Parade pitch, throw an additional point on the Draw/Morecambe half time/full time bet at 15/2.
