Man City v Liverpool – Sunday 16:30, Sky Sports 1

This match pits third against fourth as both sides seek to cement a place in the top four, with City looking to get over their midweek Champions League exit at the hands of Monaco, while Liverpool will hope to continue their recovery from a poor start to 2017. Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won three of their last four, having gone five without a victory prior to that, while Pep’s side have won four of six unbeaten matches in the league, uncharacteristically keeping a clean sheet in four of the last five.

Man City have only lost once at the Etihad this season, against Chelsea in a game they possibly should have won, but Guardiola’s overall record against fellow top-seven sides leaves a lot to be desired. They’ve lost half of their eight games against such opposition, including a 1-0 defeat at Anfield, while Arsenal are the only team they’ve beaten on home turf. In contrast, Jurgen Klopp has an enviable record in such matches, winning six and drawing four this term.

Liverpool are without a win in four on their travels, losing their last two against strugglers Hull and Leicester both by a two-goal margin, but drew with Man Utd in their previous away fixture. Klopp’s intense ”gegenpressing” style has proved more effective against the better sides who are more willing to go toe-to-toe and leave space in behind, and given the way Man City defended over the two legs with Monaco, we think Klopp can continue his fantastic record against the big teams. We’re backing Liverpool (draw no bet), keeping the draw onside as the Reds aim to claim their fifth win in a row against City.
