West Brom have been improving, with three wins from four unbeaten games across all competitions prior to their midweek trip to the Etihad. The Baggies have only lost once in their last six at the Hawthorns, against Man Utd, but having drawn four of their last five hosting bottom-half sides we think that’s where the value lies.
Indeed, the Saints have drawn six of their last 10 in the league prior to hosting Brighton on Wednesday, while five of the seven games they’ve played against bottom-seven sides have finished in a stalemate. Both teams scored in four of the last five of these games, as well as in 10 of Southampton’s most recent 12 top-flight fixtures, while West Brom appear to have found their shooting boots with both teams getting on the scoresheet in six of their last nine prior to facing City.
That brings the 1-1 correct score into play, as has occurred in three of Southampton’s last four against bottom-half sides. However, for our long shot we prefer the in-form Jay Rodriguez to open the scoring. The former Southampton attacker has netted five times in his last six appearances, including twice at Liverpool in the cup, with four of these goals coming during the opening 25 minutes.
