Flying Foxes target another victory against inconsistent Gunners.
There’s absolutely no question that Leicester City are in the driving seat to finish in the top four of the Premier League at the end of the season, and they’ve been rightly installed as favourites at home against one of their main challengers: Arsenal.
Despite winning just four of their 11 matches, Arsenal are somehow still 5th, but if they lose to The Foxes at the King Power on Saturday afternoon, they’ll fall nine points behind the 2015/16 Champions with a vastly inferior goal difference, and even at this relatively early stage of the season, Arsenal’s chronic inconsistencies will make closing that gap very difficult indeed.
Brendan Rodgers’ men have won every home game since their goalless draw with Wolves on the opening weekend, while the Gunners have won just two of their last 10 away games in all competitions – their most recent slip-up being that meek draw in the Europa League against Vitoria.
Not only are Leicester building the type of momentum we last saw under Claudio Ranieri, but they’ve also beaten Arsenal on their last two visits to the KP—scoring three goals on both occasions—and the fact Leicester are odds-against means I’m more than happy backing them to win once again.
The respective moods around the Arsenal and Leicester camps could not be more different right now, and that’ll be painfully evidence as City get into their stride and secure a likely victory.
A man who has been at the centre of Leicester’s success this season—and indeed many seasons prior to this—is of course Jamie Vardy.
Not only is Vards the current top-scorer in the division with 10 goals, but he’s also scored eight times in his eight appearances against Arsenal.
Bernd Leno has conceded 15 goals in his 11 matches this season, and this less-than-stellar defensive record (through little fault of his own, in fairness) will be brutally exposed by the 32-year-old.
Vardy to score first (with each-way tacked on so a goal at any time delivers profit) is my second and final tip.
