Will the Ljungberg era get off to a winning start?
It’s been just another week in North London. Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking came as a surprise; Unai Emery’s departure…not so much.
The beleaguered Spaniard has been on borrowed time for a while now, and there’s no doubt his exit will be music to many Arsenal fans’ ears.
The popular Freddie Ljungberg will take temporary charge for Arsenal’s trip to Norwich on Sunday, and I’m expecting a serious reaction from the players. It’s been clear for a while that Emery lost the Dressing Room as well as the fans, there’s every chance we see a post-Mourinho style bounce from the players with Emery now gone.
However, perhaps some may make a case for this being a bad time to play Norwich. The Canaries did end their eight-game winless run against Everton last weekend, although in my eyes this is more of an outlier than a sign of recovery. Everton are a dreadful side, and Norwich have shown on too many occasions that they are both porous and toothless.
There’s no denying that Arsenal are so much better than what they’ve shown so far this season, and if Ljungberg’s able to get the side playing to even 70% of their maximum level, they’ll beat the relegation favourites.
This is where the Gunners bounce back.
At a bigger price, there’s value in a goal being scored within the first 10 minutes.
Norwich have conceded within the first 10 minutes four times already this season—which is ludicrous considering they’ve only played 13 games—and this Arsenal side will be desperate for a fast start in order to win Freddie’s favour.
