Who will triumph in this exciting curtain-raiser for the Premier League weekend?
Everton v Arsenal for Saturday’s early kick-off looks fascinating.
At the time of writing, both clubs are on the verge of announcing their new managers: Mikel Arteta for The Gunners and Carlo Ancelotti for The Toffees.
With this in mind, the fixture at Goodison almost feels like a free hit for Duncan Ferguson and Freddie Ljungberg, who will both identify it as very winnable.
Everton are four points behind Arsenal, although they’ve shown more improvement since Marco Silva left his post that The Londoners have since Unai Emery was shown the door.
Ferguson has given Everton momentum—evidenced by four points against Chelsea and Manchester United—while Arsenal have only managed to beat West Ham under Freddie, and there’s such a sense of rudderlessness about them.
Arsenal’s away form also leaves a lot to be desired: just one win in the road since the opening day is a big reason as to why they’re down in 10th, and I’m backing them to lose yet again against Everton.
The past couple of results appears to have restored a modicum of feel-good factor at Everton, and considering they’ve won two of their last three home games against Arsenal, I’m fairly confident they have what it takes to claim the points and push further clear of relegation.
As a little stats-based play, I like the look of over 12.5 corners at 23/10.
Only Manchester City average more corners-per-game than Arsenal (7.53), while Everton are fourth on the list, averaging 6.18 – which is curiously exactly the number of Arsenal’s average corner concessions-per-game.
With such an open game expected, it’s not out of the question that Arsenal and Everton out-perform their corner averages, which should see the over 12.5 shot romp home.
