Jose Mourinho meets yet another former-employer.
For the second time in December, Jose Mourinho prepares to face one of his former-clubs as Spurs manager. The Portuguese will be hoping for a happier outcome than his Old Trafford defeat, although he’ll be fully aware Chelsea are there for the taking.
A couple of months ago, Chelsea looked like a serious force; their crop of youngsters were beating all that stood before them, and nobody was questioning Frank Lampard’s credentials anymore.
However, as is often the case with inexperienced squads, when things start going wrong, it’s quite tough to immediately recover. As has been proven.
The Blues have lost four of their last five Premier League games—including home defeats against West Ham and Bournemouth—and with the feel-good factor surging through the Spurs dressing room right now, they appear great value to win this.
While their defence has been bizarrely un-Mourinho, Spurs have banged in 16 goals during the Portuguese’s first seven matches, and considering Chelsea have lost back-to-back away games—with no clean sheet on the road all season—16/11 for a home win looks mighty tempting.
Only Everton, Aston Villa and Watford have conceded more away goals than Chelsea this season, and considering how Spurs have started under Jose, I expect them to get a couple on Sunday.
One man who will be licking his chops is Dele Alli; the England man looks revitalised under his new manager, and he has also scored six goals in his seven appearances against Chelsea, which is a very handy return indeed.
At 9/1, there’s value in backing Dele to score first; I’m also backing each-way, to ensure a healthy profit if he scores at any time.
