Football expert Ryan Elliott has a 2pt tip for Norwich's big clash with Southampton.
It’s getting to the stage for Norwich City where, despite such a long period of inactivity, they simply cannot afford to lose too many more games if they wish to stay in the Premier League.
Six points adrift of safety with nine games remaining, The Canaries are far from doomed, but if they get off to a slow start once the league resumes, they’ll run out of road.
They face a Southampton side who have had a topsy-turvy season strife with inconsistency, but it’s likely they’re only a few victories away from safety.
As I’ve alluded to in other previews, the Bundesliga has shown us that home advantage is largely irrelevant when sides are playing behind closed doors, with away victories absolutely rife over in Germany.
This is particularly bad news for Norwich, who have earned 15 of their 21 points this season at Carrow Road, and the lack of fans, which undoubtedly diminishes the impact of this home advantage, will make life even tougher than normal for them.
Furthermore, Southampton have made a name of themselves this season as an outfit who are somewhat away-day specialists.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have earned more points on the road this season than at St. Mary’s, so they’ll be licking their chops at the prospect of facing the league’s bottom side in their empty stadium.
Only five sides this season have better away records than Southampton, and they’ll be looking to add another victory to their tally – much like their 2-1 win against Norwich in December.
Southampton have more quality, and with the playing field significantly levelled, the visitors are certainly worth a punt at 6/5.
