Tom Love has two tips for Norwich City's clash with Everton on Wednesday evening.
Norwich started off their game against Southampton with real purpose and impetus but were picked apart by The Saints in the second half. It was a worrying drop off and screamed of a team resigned relegation. They’ve gained a lot of plaudits this season but I can’t quite understand why they’re being lauded to the high heavens for being rock bottom of the table. Bear in mind they actually won the Championship title, it’s not like they’ve fluked their way to the prem.
Their defending in that game was nothing short of schoolboy stuff, you can’t defend like that and get results to keep you up, simple. I therefore fear for them against any half-decent attacking team and Everton, although relatively defensive against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, will adopt a different game plan here.
The Toffees have generally been attacking in their play since Carlo Ancelotti took the helm at Goodison, their underlying process has improved and so has their goal output with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin striking up a great partnership up front. I fully expect them to notch a couple of goals here and the 5/6 available on them to score 2 or more goals looks like a great way in. The Canaries have leaked 2 or more goals in 19 games so far this season.
I also like the look of second half goals. We’ve seen the five sub rule help bigger teams in the second half, and with first halves seeing a real drop off in goals we are also seeing an increase in goals after the break. Norwich simply have to win here and it means we should at least get an open and entertaining second half with plenty of gaps on the pitch. There’s some 11/10 available on over 1.5 second half goals and that looks a great way in with the game dynamics and current situation.
