Tom Love has one tip for struggling West Ham's trip to Spurs this evening.
Spurs managed to get out of their game on Friday night with Manchester United with a draw. It was a game they probably had the better of in the first half and took the lead courtesy of a Stephen Bergwijn strike only for them retreat in typical Jose Mourinho fashion and invite pressure until they cracked.
Mourinho can blame fitness all he likes, he’s got to take some responsibility for that. Make the right changes at the right time and they have a far greater chance of taking all three points. Anyway, the had an extra day's rest compared to Tuesday night's opponents, West Ham, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Wolves. I fear for the Hammers, who look like they could sleepwalk into a dangerous situation.
It’s hard to have faith in the Hammers this season, their underlying process is poor, especially at the back. David Moyes has done little to change things on the face of it and it was a very obvious move to bring him back to the club. They look a team that’s disjointed and lacks cohesion, that’s a great worry especially in the predicament they find themselves in at this stage of the season.
For all the negativity around Spurs, few teams come away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with 3 points and they’ll have greater impetus here you’d imagine, against a weaker opponent. I’m not expecting an enthralling, end-to-end game, but I do think Spurs will take the win.
If you exclude the top 6, Spurs have a W7, D2, L1 record at home and these are the games they tend to win. Options are more plentiful now as well and I think they’ll see off this poor West Ham side. The hosts are rightful odds-on favourites at 4/6 but I’m happy to nudge that up to odds-against and take the Spurs win alongside under 4.5 goals which pays 11/10.
