Chelsea’s defeat to West Ham on Wednesday did Watford absolutely no favours at all in their relegation battle, and Nigel Pearson will be hoping to emulate The Hammers’ performance (and result) on Saturday.

The Hornets have been pretty woeful since the restart—earning just one point from their three games against Leicester, Burnley and Southampton—and those last two results, no doubt earmarked as winnable games, will have come as a huge disappointment to Pearson.

As for Chelsea, they defended atrociously to gift West Ham three points last time out, and they’ll have to be significantly better than that if they’re to finish in the top four, particularly when you look at the form of Wolves and Man Utd below them.

It’s along the lines of Chelsea’s defensive woes where I derive my one and only tip for this game: both teams to score, priced at 19/20.

While Watford have only mustered 29 goals this season (only Palace and Norwich have fewer), the state of Chelsea’s defence, coupled with the price, makes this worth a punt.

Only eight clubs have a weaker defence than Chelsea, with lower-placed outfits such as Brighton and Newcastle all shipping fewer, and a whopping 63% of all of their games this season have seen both teams to score – with only Spurs sporting a higher percentage.

I do believe this is a game in which Watford could get a result, but their performance level will have to be astronomically higher than what we saw against Burnley or Southampton.

However, as a smidgen under evens, both teams to score (particularly after we saw how many issues West Ham caused Chelsea) looks a solid value bet.
