Football expert Ryan Elliott has previewed Manchester United's big game against Southampton on Monday.
Manchester United vs Southampton on Monday night has an interesting flavour to it. While United, who are bang in-form, have demolished pretty much everyone in their way since returning to action, they come up against a Saints side who are also flying at the moment.
The visitors have lost just one of their five games back, and have taken seven points from their last three matches, including that incredible victory over Manchester City – which will act as a stark warning to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
This is the sort of game where I’ve somewhat struggled to find good value. United are a very short price in the result markets, and while they justify this to some extent, Southampton have already showed they’re more than capable of upsetting the books.
I’m also staying clear of any individual goalscorer markets. When Bruno Fernandes is as short as evens to score, it’s probably worth staying away.
Therefore, at 21/20, I’m giving Southampton a +2 handicap – allowing them to lose by a single goal and still turn a profit.
This goes against the grain in regards to United’s recent performances, but since Southampton lost 9-0 to Leicester back in October, they’ve lost just three games by more than a single goal (one coming at Anfield), and therefore I believe they have the capability to frustrate United.
Of course, most will expect another masterclass from Ole’s red-hot United side, but I have a feeling Monday’s visitors won’t be quite as accommodating as some will expect.
