Best odds of 17/20 at bet365 while publishing.
1st selection: Noussair Mazraoui 1+ Fouls Won
Noussair Mazraoui looks well placed to win at least one foul in this contest. The Moroccan full-back is averaging 2.03 fouls won per 90 minutes across his last 20 international appearances and has already been fouled six times in four World Cup matches. While those tournament numbers are solid rather than spectacular, the matchup is what makes this selection particularly appealing.
France are one of the most aggressive pressing sides left in the competition, looking to regain possession high up the pitch, and that should create plenty of opportunities for Mazraoui to draw contact. Expected to line up against the likes of Jules Koundé, Ousmane Dembélé and potentially Michael Olise drifting across to his side, the Bayern Munich defender should see plenty of defensive pressure. Mazraoui is an adventurous full-back who regularly carries the ball out from deep, inviting challenges and forcing defenders into mistimed tackles, making another foul won a strong angle.
2nd Selection: Noussair Mazraoui 2+ Tackles
Mazraoui also stands out in the tackles market given the nature of France's attacking setup. Opposition left-backs are averaging 2.6 tackles per game against France across their last 12 matches, with the constant movement of players such as Dembélé, Olise and Désiré Doué creating plenty of one-on-one defensive situations.
The Moroccan defender thrives in these battles, averaging 2.82 tackles per 90 minutes across his last 20 appearances for his country. He has already recorded 13 tackles in four World Cup starts, including three and five tackles respectively in Morocco's last two knockout fixtures. With France expected to enjoy significant possession and repeatedly attack down the flanks, another busy defensive display from Mazraoui looks likely.
3rd Selection: Lucas Digne 1+ Fouls Committed
Lucas Digne faces one of the toughest individual matchups of the evening and that should put his foul line firmly in play. The French left-back is expected to spend much of the game dealing with Achraf Hakimi, who averages 2.26 fouls won per 90 minutes, while Brahim Díaz, averaging 2.52 fouls won per 90, is also likely to drift into his area throughout the match.
Digne has committed at least one foul in each of his last nine consecutive starts for France and is not afraid to make tactical fouls when exposed defensively. Against the pace, direct running and technical quality of Hakimi and Díaz, there should be several situations where he is forced to halt attacks, making another foul committed a strong expectation.
