Viktor Hovland

At the time of writing, one week out from the start of the PGA Championship 2022 at Southern Hills, Norwegian Hovland (22/1) has taken 12.13% of the outright bets on the tournament.

The 24-year-old has shown mixed form of late, recording just a single top 20 from his last four starts, but this run came after a win in the Dubai Desert Classic, top five in both the Genesis Invitational and Arnold Palmer Invitational, and a top 10 in The Players at Sawgrass.

Scottie Scheffler

The presence of world number one and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler (best price 12/1) near the top of this list will come as no surprise, as the 25-year-old Texan looks to build on a run of four victories – including at Augusta – from just his last seven starts. 

Even his non-wins during that period featured a 7th at the Genesis Invitational and 18th at the Zurich Classic, with his only substandard showing coming at The Players (55th). He has taken 10.06% of the outright bets on the tournament through oddschecker since the start of the year.

Shane Lowry

World number 27 Shane Lowry has shown impressive consistency of late, finishing inside the top 15 six times in his last seven events including top three at the Honda Classic, Masters and RBC Heritage.

The Irishman has been backed to build on his major form by Niall Lyons, who picked him out as one of just five players to hit all the recent winner trends – he is inside the world’s top 30, finished in the top 20 at the Masters, ranks top 25 for Strokes Gained Tee to Green (SG T2G) and has a regular win or major top five to his name this season.

Lowry, best price 40/1 (25/1 in places), has featured in 6.06% of the outright betslips for the PGA Championship 2022 through oddschecker so far this year.

Brooks Koepka

There are doubts over the participation of four-time major winner Brooks Koepka in the PGA Championship at Southern Hills after he withdrew from this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson.

The PGA Tour has yet to reveal the reason for his withdrawal, but the 32-year-old has endured a number of injury setbacks over recent seasons and has not featured since missing the cut at the Masters in April.

That being said, Koepka would still attract interest from punters should he be declared fit (22/1), owing to his incredible consistency on the major stage. For example, he has two wins and three other top fives in seven PGA Championship starts since 2015.

At the time of writing, Koepka has taken 4.32% of the bets through oddschecker in 2022.

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm (joint 12/1 favourite with Scheffler) is a curious case in that he goes somewhat under the radar despite his consistency, world ranking and steady stream of wins.

The media clamour always seems to be around Scheffler’s Tiger-esque run to the top, Tiger himself and whether he will be fit enough to play, and Rory McIlroy’s desperate pursuit of major glory.

Yet Rahm has 14 professional wins, including the US Open 2021, he has nine top 10 finishes in the majors from just 22 starts (13 top 25s) and is coming off a win in his last PGA Tour appearance at the Mexico Open at the start of the month.

Rahm rounds off our most backed list with 4.26% of the bets since the start of the year.
