Those trends from Niall Lyons were that nine of the last 11 winners of the Sony Open had finished inside the top 50 in the putting stats for that season end (nine of 12 after Si Woo Kim’s win last year).
Equally, nine of the last 11 winners of the tournament had played in the year opener at Kapalua (nine of 12 given that Kim didn’t play in last year’s Sentry Tournament of Champions).
24 of the top 50 putters in 2023 will tee it up at the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii - Montgomery, Cole, Theegala, Aberg, Taylor, Todd, Hatton, Baddeley, An, Hall, Suh, Rose, Hoge, Power, Bradley, McCarthy, McNealy, Griffin, Poston, Wu, Hadwin, Kim, Lower and Skinns.
14 of those 24 played in the Sentry last week at Kapalua - Cole, Theegala, Aberg, Taylor, Todd, Hatton, An, Rose, Hoge, Power, Bradley, McCarthy, Poston and Hadwin.
11 of those 14 can be found with a best price shorter than 100/1 through oddschecker for this year’s tournament - Cole, Theegala, Aberg, Todd, Hatton, An, Rose, Bradley, McCarthy, Poston and Hadwin.
However, the value betting pick for the 2024 Sony Open may just lie in one of the three players with a best price longer than 100/1.
Nick Taylor (110/1 on BetVictor) is one of just two players among the 14 hitting Niall’s two top trends who finished in the top 20 of last year’s Sony Open. Byeong-Hun An is the other at 40/1 (bet365).
