Niall Lyons has picked out four tips for the upcoming Procore Championship, with odds ranging from 18/1 to 100/1.
Procore Championship
Silverado Resort, California.
The first of the fall events takes place in California at the Silverado Resort and Max Homa has an eye catching record here. Two victories and a 7th place in the last four years is some run and previous form often translates well here.
Homa has also won the Genesis at Riviera and the Farmers at Torrey to combine for an incredible record in this state and that is always a good place to start when analysing this week's field.
Form in California often carries over and with Poa Annua greens featuring here and across a handful of other courses used on the West Coast a nod to this form is advised.
One thing in particular stands out when looking to the course stats and that's how dominant the tee to green experts have been here. Homa ranked 1st tee to green in 2022 when winning, and second in the same stat when he won in 2021.
Four of the placers last year were inside the top 6 in this statistic. Steele and Champ both topped the tee to green numbers whilst Cink was 2nd and Tway was 3rd. In 2023 all those who made the top 5 sat inside the top ten performers from tee to green.
There is no compromising on this and it's the necessary statistic to look to. Fairways are narrow enough but rough doesn't tend to be too punishing so bombers and shorter hitters can taste success here.

3.5pts WIN Justin Thomas - 18/1
This event gets very lucky this time around with the penny dropping with Team USA just how important a competitive outing is in the run up to the Ryder Cup.
As a result, this is the strongest field ever assembled for this event and Scottie Scheffler slots in as 2/1 favourite. A debutant here I can't help but feel he looks a little short in the market, and I'd prefer to bet with him in it and gain a little value elsewhere.
Ultimately class tells in these events so often these days that it would be foolish not to include a couple from towards the top of the market.
The most tempting is Justin Thomas who should really benefit by a return to a course that doesn't punish wayward drives. Cameron Champ said he didn't care where he hit off the tee when winning in 2019 and Thomas has fairly suffered in the accuracy department with the driver for a fair while now.
He still retains plenty of distance though which is an advantage around here and although his irons haven't been as sparkling of late any improvement in that department could see him go really close.
His short game has been impeccable all year round and I can't help but feel he should be second jolly here given the fact his last four appearances here read 5-4-8-3. It's a strong field granted but he's the second most likely winner here for me and I'll bet accordingly.
2pts each-way Akshay Bhatia - 30/1
Jackson Koivun will enjoy another outing in California and could come on for the run after a highly successful week at Cypress Point. His price looks fairly thin though and instead I'll add another towards the top in the shape of Akshay Bhatia.
Californians often excel in their home events and he looks an obvious one to include given how good his long game was towards the end of the regular season and also his record on Poa greens.

His win at the Barracuda came on Poa greens and his 3rd best performance this season came at Torrey Pines at the rescheduled Genesis.
He has posted a top ten here before back in 2021 also but it his iron play this last while that really makes me think he's worth playing.
He ranks 6th in the field the last six months with the irons and it has been the most consistent part of his game. He should give himself plenty of chances to score here and it'll be down to how well he can putt on these greens which with past evidence we can be fairly hopeful that he'll render that department successful.
1pt each-way Rico Hoey - 100/1
I'll take a chance on Rico Hoey this week with a return to Poa greens hopefully being the catalyst for an upturn in that department. Hoey has long since suffered with the putter and it's interesting to hear this week that he has switched to a long putter in an attempt to turn around his fortunes.
His long game has been in impeccable shape all year ranking 3rd on tour in strokes gained tee to green.
Remarkably he ranks 163 of 163 in strokes gained putting and there has never been such a stark contrast between two parts of someone's game. Going back over two years though Hoey ranks 69th in this field in strokes gained putting on Poa/Bent greens and that represents a significant improvement compared to the norm.
With all other departments firing and with a new putter in the bag this week it feels like it's worth the gamble.
1pt each-way Matt McCarty - 80/1
Matt McCarty won three Korn Ferry Tour events in quick succession in 2024 and on only his second PGA Tour start in the fall season of last year he managed a victory on the main stage at the Black Desert Championship.
His 2025 has been solid enough also with a very impressive 14th on debut at the Masters being a particular highlight as well as numerous other top 10s and 20s.
What is notable this year is that two of his three best putting performances have come on these types of greens. They both came at the Detroit GC and TPC Toronto where he ranked 3rd and 1st respectively in putting for those weeks.
His tee to green effort last time out at the Wyndham was one of his best in a long time so everything looks to be marrying at the perfect time and having been prolific enough over the last 18 months he can be a real danger to the protagonists here.
