Ryder Cup 2025

A 3 point deficit almost feels like a success for Team USA as on both occasions during the foursomes and fourballs it looked like it could be a lot worse. A 5-3 victory across today's matches would put this match right back on the flip of a coin heading into Sunday. It seems a tall order though and I for once can't see it happening.

The Europeans look better prepared, more suited to the course, and in Keegan Bradley USA have a captain who seems unwilling to stray from a plan that went absolutely south on day one. The home team's performance on the greens in the foursomes was damaging and they'll need to hole more putts on day two.

The inclusion of Morikawa and English again seems a strange decision and once again they have been thrust up against McIlroy and Fleetwood. That's a dream scenario for Europe again and it looks a shoe in for this partnership. How on earth Morikawa and English turn around their turgid form from yesterday is beyond me and Bradley's comments that they're keen to get back on the course and make amends seems foolish if not a little selfish.

Fitzpatrick was the best player on day one and goes with Aberg once again in the foursomes. Aberg was disappointing in the afternoon and didn't contribute an awful lot in the morning when routing Scheffler and Henley. It makes them slightly vulnerable in the top game to Dechambeau who was solid on day one and Cam Young who was the best player statistically in the afternoon fourballs. This is the partnership I was bullish would work throughout the week and it should have been the fourballs partnership on day one. Should they win their foursomes game they should go again in the afternoon.

Scheffler and Henley get a lifeline in match four given that Hovland and MacIntyre were two of the underperforming souls in the European squad in Friday's foursomes. I don't quite get the trend with Scheffler being paired with Burns, Spaun and Henley now in Ryder Cups. Team Europe pair up their best two players in McIlroy and Fleetwood whilst their 3rd best Rahm goes with 5th best Hatton. Scheffler seems like he is given the burden of carrying lesser players and it isn't working out. Nevertheless I give them a fair squeak here because we can expect Henley to be a little less nervous today whilst Scheffler seemingly can't play any worse than what he did yesterday. The crowd got to MacIntyre yesterday and he'll be a target once again today.
