The Italian Open returns to Circolo Golf Torino for the first time since 2014 so we will little relevant information or stats as to how this tournament may play out. Julien Quesne winning in 2013 and Hennie Otto in 2014 doesn't give us a lot of clues.

The par 71 track isn't overly long at just over 7200 yards and with tall trees lining holes throughout the course my preference would be to favour the more accurate, strategic players from the tee.

The traditional stats from 2013 and 2014 suggest both long and short hitters can prevail here with neither being particularly stronger over the other.

Strangely enough there is a strong trend of players playing well here on more than one occasion. Torrance, Lyle, Langer, Poulter, Francesco Molinari, Castano and Otto have all won this event multiple times so it may pay to look at prior performance in this event no matter the venue.

Matt Wallace at 28/1 (Seven Places)

My biggest wager in this tournament goes the way of Englishman Matt Wallace. He arrives here in some sneaky good form with his missed cut in Canada being the only one in his last ten events. Runner up at San Antonio in Texas has been his best result of the year narrowly missing out there to JJ Spaun.

He ranked 2nd on the greens at the Cadillac when finishing 23rd with his irons misfiring that week. He ranked 2nd in strokes gained approach the following week at Quail Hollow where this time his putter was the misbehaving club.

A solid 44th at the PGA Championship followed and following a month off maybe the Canada result was shaking off a little rust. He should relish this tree lined test in Italy as these are the types of layouts he excels on.

Turn the clock back to 2016 and his breakout year on the Alps Tour that saw him win six times with two of those being in Italy. Having finished 4th and 7th in this event in five tries and dropping down in grade he rates quite easily as the best bet of the week across both tours.

Tom McKibbin at 33/1 (Seven Places)

With LIV golfers to the fore in the market they'll be a tough group to beat and history over the last year or two suggests they have every chance of landing another victory. Whether the trip from Shinnecock to Italy is an ideal scenario for the market leaders is up for debate. One of this group who I'm happy to chance at more than double the odds of the favourites is Tom McKibbin.

He hasn't found life easy on the LIV Tour with only one top 10 finish in his last nine LIV starts. What has been impressive throughout this year is his game off the tee both long and straight on a consistent basis with the driver.

That should give him a significant advantage around this track and it is how he performs thereafter that will make or break his week.

His irons were solid for the month of May then went a little off the boil at Valderrama last time out. What he has really struggled with is the putter but that could turn at any moment.

With a win in Germany and a runner up here before at the Italian Open he is well equipped to perform in these parts and may just be a fair bit fresher than his LIV counterparts.

Francesco Molinari at 50/1 (Seven Places)

With the history of multiple winners here and a slight upturn in form in 2026 I'm happy to take the chance on the home star Francesco Molinari. Molinari has played seven events on the DPWT this year and finished inside the top 6 in two of them. He was inside the top 15 heading into the final round last time out at the KLM Open eventually finishing 32nd.

His long game has been in very decent shape but he has struggled with the putter. The Molinari brothers both grew up on this golf course and if ever there was a venue that could present Francesco with a huge opportunity to get his career firmly back on track it is this one.

There is plenty to like about his form in 2026 and a return to his home course may just come at the perfect time with a handful of the favourites returning from a gruelling US Open.

He won this event in 2006 and 2016 and can make it a hat trick of wins ten years apart each time.

Martin Couvra at 50/1 (Eight Places)

There is a theme with my picks this week and it is form in Italy with Martin Couvra being the next on the list. He finished runner up to fellow Frenchman Adrien Saddier last year at Argentario and I'm hoping he can go one better this time around in Turin.

His missed cut at the KLM Open last time out was his only weekend off in his last eight events and generally speaking he has been fairly consistent following his breakthrough victory in Turkey last year.

With Niemann, Puig and Reed making up a strong group of market leaders I'm looking to those with progressive careers who could perhaps be talked about in the same breath in the future as those names previously mentioned.

There is a lot to like about the way Couvra has managed these first couple of years on the main stage we're just waiting on another week when all parts of the game click as recently there has always been one part that has let him down.

Recently that has been his putter but a solid long game should prove fruitful this week and Couvra is one of the most talented sorts in that 33-66/1 bracket who could take on a field of this strength.
