The World Wide Technology Championship is played at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico. Mayakoba was ditched a few years ago for this Tiger Woods-designed golf course and the two couldn't be any more different. Whilst El Camaleon was all about fairways and greens, this golf course has some of the widest fairways and easiest-to-hit greens on tour.

The winner three years ago, Erik Van Rooyen, hit a whopping 86% of greens throughout the week and only ranked 18th in that category. Unfortunately we don't get strokes gained statistics from the couple of years this course has been used. We did assume that it would suit the longest hitters in the field with the ability to open the shoulders and not give a monkey's about where it goes.

Adam Long in fact hit every fairway three years ago whilst Van Rooyen hit 92% and only ranked 27th. Fairways and greens are easy here, and what it comes down to is a putting contest.

Johnny Keefer at 35/1 (Eight Places)

Although this course doesn't necessarily lend itself to the longer hitters compared to last week, I have to get involved with the ball buster Johnny Keefer. This selection is almost based entirely on price.

22/1 was the general price for Keefer last week, admittedly on a much more suitable venue. He missed the cut by two shots but this was only down to a disastrous week with the putter. He ranked 46th on day one in ball striking and 2nd on day two in the same statistic.

A couple of names have been added to the field but Wyndham Clark and Tom Kim have dropped out. I would say that warrants a very similar price to last week at Vidanta and given how his long game was in fairly good shape there I don't see a reason for such a drift.

Haotong Li at 90/1 (Six Places)

Haotong Li sits 128th in the Fedex rankings and has a lot to play for over the coming weeks. If he gets inside the top 125 then he earns conditional status but he won't be ruling out a higher finish with a big week. Players around this mark have historically stepped it up at this stage of the season and Haotong is playing well enough to make an impact here.

29th last week at Vidanta Vallarta was a fine effort given his short game wasn't up to scratch. His long game was, though, ranking 8th in ball striking there. A repeat of that and an upturn with the putter could see him go well here and having started the year off really well Stateside it would be no surprise to see him bookend it with a couple of nice finishes.

Stephan Jaeger at 45/1 (Eight Places)

I was surprised to see Stephan Jaeger not in the field list for the event last week but, making the trip this week, he loves a birdie fest and just about makes my squad. At Vidanta Vallarta Jaeger has four finishes of 15-18-3-6. That is a really eye-catching record and I can only assume something clashed with last week's event so he couldn't feature.

Strictly speaking that form should carry over to this golf course but that hasn't exactly happened in two appearances here, finishing 45th three years ago then missing the cut last year. It's not quite enough to put me off someone who is very decent with the putter and can rack up low scores with regularity.

He arrives here off the back of a 4th placed finish at the Baycurrent alongside the favourite Ryan Gerard and ahead of the likes of Min Woo Lee and Sungjae Im.

Denny McCarthy at 60/1 (Eight Places)

Someone who is behind the eight ball a lot of weeks on tour is Denny McCarthy simply because he doesn't have the length off the tee. In what is somewhat of an anomaly for that type of golfer, he isn't overly accurate either. This course should grant him plenty of grace in that department and it's from the second shot onwards that he could reap the rewards here.

His iron play was in fine shape last week at Vidanta and a continuation of that should give him a big chance of competing here. That is because a massive part of the jigsaw here is down to the putter. McCarthy has consistently been one of the best putters on tour and frankly he owes what is a solid enough career to that club.

This is his first trip to El Cardonal which could prove to be a very nice decision with that maiden PGA Tour victory still remaining elusive.

Billy Horschel at 70/1 (Eight Places)

There are risks attached to backing Billy Horschel but if he's match fit the reward could be big. He pulled out of last week after four holes citing dizziness and general illness. Horschel had made the trip to Mexico as he sits 97th in the Fedex rankings and could do with a solid finish to secure his place inside the top 100. He will have had seven days to recover by the time the competition starts and the price looks too big to turn down.

Horschel won on Paspalum back in 2024 when he won the Corales in Punta Cana and also has 5th and 8th placed finishes at El Camaleon. Being an eight-time winner on tour he has a big advantage over many priced shorter than him should he get into contention over the weekend, and with the putter being the most important club he stands every chance if he's back to full health.

Risky I know, but we aren't talking about a physical injury here and the upside is big at these prices.
