After successfully tipping Rory McIlroy at 13/1 last week, Niall Lyons is back with three tips for the RBC Heritage.
RBC Heritage
Course - Harbour Town Golf Links, Hilton Head Island, Sea Island, Georgia.
This event has a distinct profile when it comes to the type of golfers who have won here. In the last 20 years we have winners here like Brian Gay, Jim Furyk, Brandt Snedeker, Graeme McDowell, Matt Kuchar, Branden Grace, Webb Simpson, Stewart Cink, Jordan Spieth and Matt Fitzpatrick. These guys have all been ball striking experts, and for the most part extremely accurate off the tee.
Five of the top 5 and ties in 2024 ranked inside the top ten for strokes gained tee to green. Five of the first six home in 2023 were inside the top10 in the same category. Last year 4 of the top 5 in that category finished inside at the top 5 at the end of the event. Similar has played out in previous years also.
Here we have to look to those who make their gains from tee to green, but not necessarily by longer hitting off the tee. They are small targets around here and scrambling comes into the equation more so than what it does on your average PGA Tour course.
In recent years, and since the beginning of signature event status this event has produced fine winners such as Spieth, Fitzpatrick, Thomas and Scheffler with seemingly no hangover affecting many following a gruelling week at Augusta National.
Previous Winners / Winning Score:
2025 - J.Thomas (-17)
2024 - S.Scheffler (-19)
2023 - M.Fitzpatrick (-17)
2022 - J.Spieth (-13)
2021 - S.Cink (-19)
2020 - W.Simpson (-22)
2019 - CT Pan (-12)

Tip 1: Cam Young - 3pts Each-Way
16/1 and Eight Places available with various bookmakers at the time of publishing.
I don't believe Cameron Young is the type to get too downhearted by the way last Sunday went and I'm going to back him to bounce back here straight away. Attitude wise he doesn't get too up or down so will arrive here with the same confidence as to which he approached last week.
Young ranked 7th from tee to green last week gaining strokes through the bag and has everything you need to achieve success around Harbour Town. He finished 3rd here on debut back in 2022, has a recent win on a Pete Dye track and also a victory at Sedgefield, a strongly correlated course to Harbour Town.
All aspects of his game let him down last Sunday and to be fair I thought it was admirable how he hung around still with a chance of matching McIlroy with a handful of holes to play. He will know more than many that some days it just doesn't go your way and personally I don't think he did a lot wrong and handled himself quite well for being in the final pairing at the Masters.
I think it would be foolish to let Sunday's disappointment distract from the fact he finished 7th at Riviera, 3rd at Bayhill, Won at Sawgrass and now finished 3rd at Augusta. Make no mistake he is the form player in the field and probably the biggest danger to Scottie Scheffler on form alone.
One of his main assets which is his driving is slightly curtailed around here but his approach play is absolutely firing of late and I'm confident enough that he can continue on this fine run.
Tip 2: Xander Schauffele - 3pts Each-Way
14/1 and Six Places available with SpreadEx, Sporting Index, and betway when publishing.
Matt Fitzpatrick and Collin Morikawa are two very lively sorts here also and the latter in particular given how he stayed on for 7th place last week at the Masters. Fitness may still be a concern though and we'll watch and see how he goes playing two weeks on the trot. I'm going with the front end of the market here and my second pick is Xander Schauffele.
Schauffele finished 9th last week but struggled on and around the greens for the most part. His approach play (2nd in the field) at Augusta is the real eye catching element and given how important iron play is around Harbour Town, Schauffele should be able to put his best foot forward here.
Alongside Young, he arrives here with some of the best form with 3rd at Sawgrass and 4th at Copperhead preceding his top 10 last week. Things finally looked up with the putter on Sunday ranking 15th wit that club in the final round and I'm hoping that will kick start a better week on the greens this time around. There is no doubt he is firing with his long game and once again I'm really keen to get a couple on board who are performing really well with their irons.
Tip 3: Brian Campbell - 0.5pts Each-Way
1000/1 and Five Places available with various bookmakers when publishing.
I was going to keep it at two selections this week but I can't help but add Brian Campbell at a whopping 1000/1.
Campbell won the John Deere and Mexico Open in 2025 in what was a phenomenal return to the main stage. One of the shorter hitters on tour it is no surprise maybe that he went well at Deere Run
but to win at Vidanta Vallarta was a huge surprise to everyone, especially Potgieter backers that week. Last week Campbell finished a very respectable 24th on another really long golf course. He did so by ranking 3rd around the greens and 2nd with the putter.
He has a habit of out performing expectations and this golf course doesn't require length off the tee. It's a longshot but I can't resist that four digit number!
