In-form trainer/jockey combination Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson can strike at Wincanton.
DRY OL’PARTY (best price 6/1)
was quite impressive when lowering the colours of the strongly-fancied Bantam on her latest outing at Newton Abbot and given that the runner-up was rated 130 going into that contest, the assessor may still be on the lenient side with the Philip Hobbs-trained mare on handicap debut. The time figure of that race at the West Country venue certainly suggest that’s the case and with the ground very much in the favour of the daughter of Tobougg, she rates a decent bet at her early quotes to bag another winner for her in-from stable and jockey combo.

KNOCK HOUSE (best price 9/4)
has talent by the bucket loads and this could well be the season when his career is taken to new heights. A creditable fifth in the competitive novices’ handicap chase at the Cheltenham Festival was probably the highlight of his career over fences so far to date but he’s always given the impression there’ll be more to come when he matures mentally and gets a little stronger. Interestingly, he starts his campaign around the same track he kicked off last season with a bang and with the ground and small field very much in his favour, it would be a surprise if he wasn’t good enough to beat main market rival Open Hearted, who may have missed his best opportunity when fresh last week.

MITCHUM SWAGGER (best price 6/4)
overcame inexperience with aplomb in winning on handicap debut over C&D last time out and can maintain his unbeaten record despite his potentially tricky draw. Impressive when landing a strongly-contested maiden at Newbury back in May, we had to wait fully four months for the Paco Boy gelding to make the racetrack again but the intermission was well worth it as the David Lanigan’s charge made light work of an 87 opening handicap mark. Up a further 6lb for his troubles, he may prove to have enough qualities to defy the assessor.
