Lingfield 14:40

Despite Special Season having the proven course form and a bit in hand according to the official ratings, this race looks a good deal more wide-open than the bookmakers will have us believe, with any of the other three having the potential to spoil the party for favourite backers. Of the trio, RED RANNAGH (best price 13/2) looks the one with most improvement and this recent acquisition to the David Simcock stable rates the value bet of the race looking at the early prices.

A rangy, long-striding sort, the son of Teofilo made up for a desperately unlucky effort at Dundalk two starts ago with an altogether more balanced performance back at the same track last time and although he only managed to score by a short-head, the horses he beat and the time figure he posted suggest he could turn out to be a useful recruit for his new set of connections. Obviously, he has to prove himself around this sharper track, but providing he overcomes that particular test, there’s no doubt he has the ability easily outrun his odds.
