In-form Paul Nicholls looks to have a strong hand in this prestigious event but while most will be expecting the lightly-raced Grade 1 winning juvenile, Adrien Du Pont, to prove the better of the Ditcheat runners, SAN BENEDETO (NAP) (best price 10/1) might have a large say in that argument. Although he doesn’t have a sexy profile like some of his main market rivals, he does have solid form in plenty of hard-knocking strong-run handicaps and it’s that kind of background which makes him such an appealing each-way bet at his odds. Impressive when bolting up at Wincanton earlier in the season, the son of Layman was failed to run to his race on his next start at Newbury, but bounced back to form with a vengeance by making the smart One Track Mind pull out all the stops back at the same course two outings ago. His latest effort when third behind two extremely well treated horses at Huntingdon was achieved in a very fast time and with the sixth home that day, Theatre Flame, advertising the form with a win at Chepstow yesterday, the consistent and likeable five-year-old has plenty in his favour to run beyond his market expectations.
