SAINT JOHN HENRY (best price 5/4) looked all over the winner at Warwick last time, only to get agonisingly run out of the argument by the strong-staying Extreme Impact, but as that still represents a significant return to his best form, David Pipe’s charge can now be followed with a degree of confidence. To add to that general air of positivity, it’s also worth noting that the son of Saint Des Saints returns to the scene of a venue where his record reads two win from as many starts, and providing the blinkers work for the second time of asking, the six-year-old has every chance of leading it out from the front.

Kerry Lee has turned base-metal into gold on numerous occasions this season, so if anyone can alter the fortunes of ALFIE SPINNER (best price 2/1), it will be the red-hot Herefordshire handler. A one-time very smart chaser when in the care of Nick Williams, the Alflora gelding has rather lost his way in the last few seasons, so much so, that you have to go back 22 starts to find his last success. In the intervening period, however, he has run some notable races in defeat – such as runner-up in the 2014 Badger Ales Trophy – and if his belly can be suitably fired up by the surroundings of his new stable, the 11-year-old could easily make a mockery of his tumbling handicap mark in this sort of company.

ELJADDAAF (best price 5/4) signified his current wellbeing by managing to overcome what looked a tricky outside draw at Kempton last time out, so even though the handicapper has done his best to try and stick a fork in his progress, the 5lb rise in the ratings looks nowhere near enough to prevent his hat-trick from being completed. Impressive the time before at Wolverhampton, the feature of both performances have been the powerful surges Dean Ivory’s charge has mustered up once in top gear and that change of pace – usually in short supply in low grade races – can set him apart once again.
