Fourth to the in-form Pike Corner Cross at Kempton back in May, Paul Webber’s inmate got a little closer to his old rival when a one-and-a-half-length third over today’s course last time out and having run well on his previous visit here behind the 85-rated Vivre Pour Vivre (95-rated Knights Table back in fourth), a reproduction of either of those performances should ensure he’s bang on the scene in a race of this nature.

THE GAME IS A FOOT (best price 5-1) ran more than respectably in a much better race than this on his first start since leaving Gary Moore and he can make his presence felt at a track where his stats read 1324. Off the back of a 536-day layoff, Zoe Davidson’s charge looked dangerous rounding the home turn until lack of match practice kicked in from that juncture, but in finishing a respectable fourth behind the in-form Earls Court, he still came out of the race with great credit. Likely to be sharper for the run, the son of Oscar just has his stamina to prove on his first outing over three miles, but being a former pointer and given his run-style, he has a decent chance of overcoming that slight question mark.

CADEAU MAGNIFIQUE (NAP) (best price 5-2) was unlucky to bump into an upwardly mobile type in the shape of Pike Corner Cross at Newcastle last time out and in a race which doesn’t appear to have too many huge improvers in its midst, Richard Fahey’s charge can finally break his duck on the all-weather. Prior to that excellent effort at the Gosforth Park track, the son of Dutch Art had finished runner-up to another subsequent winner in the shape of Testa Rossa, so even off a 2lb higher mark, it’s clear to see he holds the key to this contest on a surface that suits.
