Rolling Dylan was mightily impressive at Uttoxeter in a strong time and is respected here, however MILLANISI BOY (Best price 12-1) shaped with some promise on his comeback at Cheltenham and maybe ready to strike again now he returns to his preferred venue. The selection appears to have been targeted at this race given his affinity for Chepstow and conditions look perfect for a bold show.

Defi Du Seuil, ante-post favourite for the Triumph Hurdle, has been hugely impressive since joining Philip Hobbs and will be tough to beat on the evidence of his two recent Cheltenham victories. Both were recorded with the minimum of fuss and he doesn’t appear to have a chink in his armour. He is only overlooked on a value perspective as the layers have correctly taken no chances. Evening Hush has already proved herself a classy filly courtesy of a high-class performance at Aintree last time so there appears stiff competition for DOLOS (Best price 7-1) but he ran to a very high level in France last time and could well put his course and distance experience to good use to cause a mini surprise.

Ante-post favourite Native River looks tailor-made for a gruelling test like today’s event and he is very much respected even if he underwent a stiff examination in landing the Hennessy last month. The Tizzard stable continues to carry all before them and he can’t be written off even is this represents a huge task, however at 3-1 he makes very little appeal and I prefer last year’s runner-up FIREBIRD FLYER (Best price 16-1) even if Welsh trainers have endured a modest record in the Coral Welsh Grand National. The selection, winner of the Midlands National in March, caught the eye on his comeback at Haydock last month when runner-up to a resurgent Three Faces West and with his conqueror going on to score again handsomely at Newbury the form looks strong. Firebird Flyer certainly won’t be inconvenienced if conditions deteriorate any further and he was arguably a shade unlucky not to finish closer last year when he was hampered early in the race when stablemate Allez Vic unseated his rider.

ASO (Best price 7-4), runner-up in a strongly run and well-contested Cheltenham handicap last time, deserved a change of fate and could be the answer to a useful handicap chase. He has looked a classy handicapper who remains feasibly treated on his best days and appears the best option at the expense of the Evan Williams-duo Tornado In Milan and On Tour. He would have gone very close to winning at Prestbury Park but for a late error and this looks a much weaker affair.

Precious little went right for Nicky Henderson at Kempton yesterday but ALTIOR can put a smile back on the master trainer’s face with victory here. Unfortunately, punters who back him at 1-7 will be more likely to wince and grimace at those odds so supporting STEPHANIE FRANCES (Best price 11-8) in the market without Altior makes some appeal as she will be surely hunted round while the pacy Marracudja is likely to set his rivals a merry gallop. It will be a surprise if Marracudja holds off Altior for long and Dan Skelton’s likeable mare could be the one for the forecast.

Kempton racegoers were treated to a sparkling round of jumping courtesy of Thistlecrack yesterday and SPECIAL TIARA (Best price 10-11) could produce a repeat performance. The Irish raider is a classy horse on genuine good ground and boasts a very handy record in small fields so could have too much latent speed for the admirable Sire De Grugy who won this event two years ago.

A terrific handicap of its type and the classy Wait For Me is probably the correct market leader considering he has the potential to make a very useful hurdler if his hurdling technique stands up. That said, that could be quite a big ‘if’ and the likes of BELTOR (Best price 6-1) and BIGMARTRE (Best price 16-1) make a little more appeal at their prices. Beltor landed a sizeable gamble on the Flat at this venue three weeks ago and makes considerable appeal now he returns to hurdling, while Bigmartre could be the type to leave behind his handicap mark in time and is fancied to make an impact on his return to action. The selection goes well fresh and appeals as well handicapped this term off 133.
