However, Clan Des Obeaux looked a special talent last month and can vindicate that view.

Village Vic had TENOR NIVERNAIS (Best price 11-1) back in second (Top Gamble (3rd) when they met in this race 12 months ago and there could be some value in backing the runner-up to turn the tables today. The selection is available at twice the price of Village Vic which looks an overreaction by the layers given Philip Hobbs’ charge has undergone two rigorous examinations at Prestbury Park this term, while Tenor Nivernais looked like the outing at Ascot on his comeback would bring him on fitness wise. The selection bowled along at the head of affairs that day before a lack of race-fitness told and he should be sharper for the experience.

QUITE BY CHANCE (Best price 11-2) would arguably have won the handicap Village Vic finished third in behind Frodon but for being badly hampered by a faller late in the piece. That performance put to rest the view that the seven-year-old has to go right handed and he is worth a saver.

Henry Daly has already surpassed last year’s winners tally and WILL O’THE WEST (Best price 14-1) could be overpriced to land the Betbright Handicap Hurdle. The six-year-old appeared to find the deep ground against him at Cheltenham last time behind Anteros and he could be better judged on a fine seasonal debut when he appeared to have a similar handicap to todays in safe keeping until a lack of race fitness told in the closing stages. He was sent for home a long way out that day and looks a tidy wager with his yard in superb form. Tom George is another handler that has enjoyed a magnificent season and ROCKLANDER (Best price 8-1) clocked another excellent time at Exeter a fortnight ago. He may not have finished improving just yet.

The first-time cheekpieces could reinvigorate Cole Harden who looks sure to give it a good go from the front on his return to hurdles. However, in the hope that CAMPING GROUND (Best price 11-2) is content with sitting on Cole Harden’s tail he gains the nod with the switch back to smaller obstacles also likely to suit the six-year-old. A year ago, Camping Ground routed Lil Rockerfeller by 11 lengths in this event yet he is now twice the price after one or two indifferent performances over fences and it would be no great surprise to see him bounce back.
