The time figure of that race was excellent and Meehan’s colt must surely be on the scene providing his rider doesn’t employ ridiculously.

The proven ability of INVINCIBLE ARMY (Best price 7-1) to handle the July Course means he is fancied to spring a mini surprise at the expense of Coventry Stakes winner Rajasinghe. Richard Spencer’s Ascot winner is correctly priced for this Group event, but he may be a little vulnerable to an improver in the shape of the selection who hammered Tribal Quest by five impressive lengths over this course and distance three weeks ago. Fourth home Rockies Spirit has since scored with authority to enhance the form and Invincible Army looks a very fair each-way play today.

 With 20 runs under his belt, no onlooker could accuse POET’S SOCIETY (Best price 16-1) of being unexposed. The northern raider has his ninth start of the calendar year today but he is taking his racing well judged on the evidence of his last two performances at York and on the July Course where he was a game winner last time over the minimum trip. Prominently ridden that day, the selection displayed great resolution to rally close home and land a decent little handicap in gutsy fashion. There some others better handicapped and more under the radar than Poet’s Society here, but he looks to have a fair draw and his experience of the track means he’s a fair each-way play in an open race.

Charlie Appleby slaps the first-time cheekpieces on Frontiersman in a hope they prove the catalyst for correction, but it is another contender that sports the headgear for the first time in WINGS OF DESIRE (Best price 9-2) which could upset the likely favourite. Although Frontiersman brings genuine Group One form to the table courtesy of his fine run in the Coronation Cup behind Highland Reel, Wings Of Desire was a similar margin behind the Ballydoyle heavyweight in last year’s King George yet is a much bigger price today. I thought he shaped with some promise in the Hardwicke on his comeback where he was penned in by the winner Idaho when trying to launch a challenge and he could be one to catch with the pieces on and Frankie Dettori back on board.
