Nick Scholfield takes you through his rides this weekend at Wincanton and Ffos Las.
Saturday: Wincanton
I ride a horse here for Jeremy Scott for its second run in a handicap. He ran well enough at Warwick last time but didn’t see out the trip so we are back to 2m5f, which should suit. Whilst there are a lot of runners he should hopefully run into a place and we would be happy with that.
He has won twice this season already for David Rees and ran well at Ascot the time before last. He was disappointing at Cheltenham last time and Venetia Williams’ horse Cepage will be hard to beat, but I think he will like the track and if the ground isn’t too bad it will help his chances.
He’s top weight and this is his first try over 3 miles, but I can’t see that being a problem. He likes the track and again if the ground isn’t too soft it would enhance his chances. Hopefully he is coming back into a bit of form; he is a course winner so that should be a big help.
He’s won his last two and we have been delighted with the wins. He’s well up in grade now and for that reason could well struggle but there aren’t many runners so we could need a bit of luck on our side. Silverhow looks a worthy favourite but hopefully we can run a nice race.
He ran ok for Ron Hodges last time; was a bit keen but we are hopeful that he will come on for the experience. Obviously Paul Nicholls has a horse called Sao in the race that will probably be a red-hot favourite, but if Midnight Midge can improve again that would be great and he is sure to be better when on better ground.
Sunday: Ffos Las
16.50 – Two Hoots
Only the five runners in this novice handicap chase. Two Hoots was running really well at Plumpton on Monday but slipped up on the one coming down the hill so we were a bit unlucky on that day. We’ll be looking to get a bit of compensation for that run at Ffos Las. It’s a higher grade than the one at Plumpton, but if we can get a clear round with him and he can improve a bit more then he should be winning before too long.
