UK Horse Racing Tips: Southwell

CATAPULT has picked up minor money on his previous three visits here over 7f to 1m and could be keeping on well at the business end. He just gets the nod over Essential, a 7f course winner who commands plenty of respect after returning to form with a solid effort in defeat at Newcastle last time. Marble Bar and Diamond Pursuit are others to consider.

KEY TO POWER made all when winning over this trip at Lingfield two starts ago and her style of running could be well suited to the venue now she debuts on Fibresand. Fair Alibi turned in a much improved performance when striking over C&D three weeks ago and could be the one to put up most resistance. Kevin Ryan's hat-trick seeker Giacomo Casanova has been in good order on the Tapeta at Newcastle and is another Fibresand debutant to consider.

POINT ZERO returned to winning ways over 6f here last time but he has winning distance form in the book here too and is expected to remain competitive following a 3lb rise. Fellow track and trip winner Something Lucky was touched off by a neck in a higher grade at Lingfield last time and is expected to show up well now returned to 0-80 level. Casterbridge and Warrior's Valley are others considered in a competitive heat.

SENSE OF DIRECTION has the benefit of a run at this track, shaping well when third on debut in January. The three-year-old will have learnt plenty from that effort and, having cost 80,000gns as a yearling, will be expected to start paying some of that off sooner rather than later. Mushaageb is nicely drawn in stall one and wears blinkers for the first time, while Creek Island was third on debut at Kempton and should also go well.

SEASEARCH shaped as though a step back up to 2m would suit when a staying-on fourth here two weeks ago over shorter, and the former course winner can enhance Andrew Balding's impressive record at this track. A mark of 63 looks more than fair and the four-year-old can prove too strong for Galileo's Spear, who has a habit of failing to find for pressure in the closing stages. Tynecastle Park could prove best of the remainder.

Tagur was pulled up last time over hurdles and should appreciate the return to this sphere, while Baron Run did it well over course and distance three weeks ago and should put in another solid display despite a 5lb rise. LION HEARTED has been raised 27lb since the turn of the year, winning five in a row, and has been shrewdly placed once more here by Mick Appleby in what looks to be a winnable affair.
