The form of BREATH OF AIR's last two starts suggest he could prove to be a fair bit better than a rating of 93. He built on a satisfactory debut when beating the subsequent Horris Hill & Greenham winner Mohaather by three and three-quarter lengths at Newbury in September before shaping well in a Listed contest when third to San Donato at Doncaster. Ryan Moore takes the ride and a strong display is expected. Moyassar was a model of consistency last season and could take another step forward having had wind surgery over the winter, while others to note in a competitive event include Yousini, who has been gelded and is another to have his wind tweaked, and Chapelli.

The market will prove to be very informative with a whole host of well-bred newcomers but the vote goes to GEOMATRICIAN. He is a half-brother to the Group 1-placed I Can Fly, who was an impressive winner on her racecourse debut, and his handler has produced a number of good winners in amongst his age group over the past couple of days. William Haggas tends to aim a decent type at this event, having won it in 2012 with subsequent Group 1 winner Mukhadram, so his two runners, Al Hadeer and Desert Icon, both warrant a fair amount of respect with slight preference for the former as he comes from a more speed-based family. Junooh, Wild Animal and Uae Jewel are others to represent top Newmarket yards and are worth a second look.

BRANDO bids to make it three wins in a row in this contest and ran with credit all of last season, despite not getting his head in front after his success in this 12 months ago. He appears well suited by the demands of the Rowley Mile, having won his other start at the track in a handicap at this meeting in 2016, and conditions look ideal for Kevin Ryan's stable star. Dreamfield was disappointing on his last start on the July Course in Listed company but he is surely better than that performance suggests, while Stewards' Cup winner Gifted Master is likely to give it his best from the front end.

Godolphin look to have a strong hand here and Charlie Appleby's Shamardal colt Zakouski looks an exciting prospect having taken down a highly-regarded Kingman colt in eye-catching fashion on debut at Kempton and the extra furlong encountered here should suit. However, it is Saeed Bin Suroor's ROYAL MARINE who gets the nod out of the duo in the royal blue as the Group 1 winner looks to build on his fourth in the UAE 2000 Guineas on his first start back on UK soil. Christophe Soumillon comes over for the ride and if the colt was to repeat his Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere performance from the autumn then he could prove hard to beat. Set Piece, Global Spectrum, Skardu and Jackstar are all unbeaten and can't be ruled out, while Confiding (third) looks to have Watan (fifth) covered on the form of their meeting in the Solario Stakes at Sandown and Martyn Meade's charge also placed in a Group 2 earlier in the summer last year.

John Gosden has a strong hand here and it is the mount of Frankie Dettori, HANDMAIDEN, who can use her experience to her advantage to land the spoils having made the podium on all four appearances last season, chasing home useful rivals on each occasion. The step up to seven furlongs is a positive and could ensure she finishes ahead of stablemate Gentlewoman, with the Shamardal newcomer giving her owner a handy second string in the race. Clerisy is a half-sister to Expert Eye and lost little in defeat on debut at Wolverhampton with much more expected here, while Switch For Light is a debutant worthy of a market check.

EL MISK showed a nice attitude to score on debut for John Gosden at Newcastle earlier this month, and the form of that contest was handed a boost last week when the second scored at Pontefract. The Derby entrant appeared to win with something to spare, and looks an excellent long-term prospect. One Vision was a winning newcomer on Tapeta for Charlie Appleby during the winter and merits plenty of respect, while stablemate Jalmoud narrowly failed to justify favouritism when second at Newcastle in November, although he did shape like the one to take from the contest. 375,000gns foal Mons Star needs a market check on debut for Saeed Bin Suroor.

GALLIC got off the mark at the fifth time of asking for Ed Walker at Newcastle back in October and looks to be worth following during this early part of the season in handicaps. A mark of 83 seems fair, and it is worth noting that she seemed to enjoy fast ground when fourth in a good maiden on the July Course last summer. Karnavaal landed a gamble on his all-weather debut last autumn and should stay even further than this given time, while Brian Epstein and Kamikaze Lord are other names to take seriously.
