Lion Hearted has won a remarkable seven times from eight starts since joining Mick Appleby but he's now rated 41lb higher (running under a penalty) than when his winning sequence began, so he may be vulnerable for win purposes. Preference is for Roger Charlton's BREATHLESS TIMES, who landed a conditions event over C&D in November and could be fairly treated off 98 if running up to that level. Sha La La La Lee has been in good order here over 1m lately and is expected to show up well on the front end if his wide draw can be overcome. Raucous is better known for his sprint exploits but he's unexposed over 7f and has often hinted it may suit, while Gallipoli has edged up 1lb for his C&D second last time but could also take a hand with a useful 3lb claimer taking over in the saddle.

AMADE backed up his impressive handicap victory over 2m at Kempton in January when landing a Fast-Track Qualifier at Chelmsford last time. The form of that race was franked when the runner-up landed a Listed contest at Nottingham last week and with Christophe Soumillon an eye-catching booking, there is every chance this contest will, again, return to France. If there is a potential fly in the ointment it may be Aircraft Carrier, who was easy to back and ran as if something was amiss behind the selection last time. John Ryan's charge had previously impressed at Wolverhampton and makes some each-way appeal on that performance. Watersmeet is a model of consistency in this sort of event and could run his race, though a bigger danger may be Spark Plug, who bumped into the enterprisingly-ridden Stamford Raffles at Kempton last time but could feasibly reverse the form with that rival if the gallop is stronger here as he remains unexposed over 2m.

ISLAND OF LIFE has been a revelation since fitted with cheekpieces and stepped up from 5f and completed an all-weather hat-trick when she accounted for Castle Hill Cassie (second) and Pattie (third) in a Fast-Track Qualifier at Wolverhampton in January. She then gave the boys a fright when going down by only a length in the Lady Wulfruna Stakes back at Dunstall Park last time - form which stands out and makes her the one they all have to beat. Clon Coulis is a classy mare who landed two Listed races for David Barron last term, though she needed every yard of the trip when winning over a mile at Chelmsford to book her place in this line-up and, along with returning Fleur De Lys winner, Rasima, she may potentially find a few speedier rivals too good in the closing stages. Crossing The Line was comprehensively beaten by the selection at Wolverhampton in January but evidently failed to give her running on that occasion. She's since bounced back to win a conditions heat at Kempton and is now afforded the utmost respect.

KACHY is a bullet and it would be one of the upsets of the day if he weren't to justify what is expected to be odds-on favouritism here. Tom Dascombe's sprint sensation caught a tartar when second to City Light in this contest 12 months ago but history shows he lost little in defeat that day, since the winner was a short-head second in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes later in the year and confirmed himself to be Group 1-class. Richard Fahey has won three of the four earlier runnings of this contest with Alben Star (2014 and 2016) and Kimberella (2017) so his George Bowen makes some each-way appeal on the back of his winning return at Kempton though, essentially, he's a smart handicapper and perhaps not in the same league as the selection. French raider Forza Capitano is something of an unknown quantity on these shores but his European form suggests he's probably got a little to find with the selection off level weights. Golden Rose winner Encrypted continues on an upward curve for Hugo Palmer and may be the one who could put up most resistance.

Charming Kid was third in the July Stakes last year and advertised his well-being when landing a Dundalk sprint from a subsequent winner latest. Like the dropped-in-trip Deep Intrigue, however, he has a wide draw to overcome this afternoon. Quiet Endeavour is berthed low and sports first-time blinkers, but his form doesn't quite match up to that of Corinthia Knight, who scooped this pot for the same trainer 12 months ago. With that in mind, the vote goes to William Haggas' DEPUTISE, who struck at Wolverhampton on his first start over 6f and is open to further improvement at the trip. French raider Pizzicato is battle-hardened and stays further so also warrants plenty of respect. Christophe Soumillon is booked and he will be a danger to all if building on his recent Listed victory at Chantilly.

WISSAHICKON signed off the last turf campaign by landing the Cambridgeshire off a mark of 107 and he's been scintillating in three subsequent outings on the all-weather, winning the Quebec Stakes, Winter Derby Trial and Winter Derby - all over C&D. John Gosden's thriving four year-old has already accounted for Court House, Master The World and Pactolus in those races. With Executive Force and Victory Bond looking up against it at the weights and French raider Roc Angel arguably at his best over 1m, it could be down to Matterhorn to try and give the selection a race. He looked very good himself when progressing through the handicap ranks over the winter but his recent flop in Magnolia Stakes now leaves him with something to prove. That said, he's still the most sensible option for the forecast as he often races prominently and may be able to at least try and steal first run on the favourite, who is usually delivered from off the pace by Frankie Dettori.

An intriguing renewal which has been spiced up by the draw. KEYSER SOZE has been impressive in 7f handicaps lately and has promised to be suited by a return to 1m, over which he was placed in last year's Spring Cup. However, he's been handed a car park draw and regular pilot Adam Kirby is riding at Bath, so it remains to be seen whether he can complete the four-timer. It does seem likely there could be a strong gallop on the cards, though, with Salateen, Glendevon and Arcanada all potential pacesetters drawn low. Straight Right, Above The Rest and Oh This Is Us all have the class needed to figure and are others for whom this may be set up nicely to suit. Whoever gets the gaps in running could come out on top.
