UK Horse Racing Tips: Brighton

SPIRIT OF ZEBEDEE has been in fine form on the all-weather this winter and John Quinn's six-year-old makes plenty of appeal returning to turf off a 2lb lower mark than when second at Lingfield last time. Diamond Lady and course and distance winner Upavon both went close over seven furlongs at Lingfield last time and need plenty of respect, while Mercers is interesting just 2lb higher than when successful over the track and trip last May.

OUT OF BREATH did well to finish second on debut having missed the break and found himself detached early on, but he finished the race in encouraging fashion which gives hope of an even better showing here. The form of that race took a boost earlier in the week when the fourth made the frame at Beverley and there seems to be plenty in the favour of Jamie Osborne's Bated Breath colt. Charlemaine wasn't given the hardest of times when third on debut at Saint-Cloud and is of real interest making his UK bow, while Richard Hannon's pair of newcomers Ivor and Beignet are worthy of consideration.

DREAM CATCHING produced two fine efforts over this track and trip last season, winning one, and Andrew Balding's four-year-old could be the one to side with on his reappearance off a mark which is just 3lb higher than when last winning in the autumn. Mamillius is another course and distance winner to consider and the consistent performer was much more like his usual self when third at Kempton earlier this month, while Global Exceed and Emily Goldfinch have both been running with credit on the all-weather and are others to consider.

CREEK HARBOUR has been kept on the go through the winter on the all-weather and shaped on his latest start at Kempton as though he would benefit from the drop to 7f. He also has a set of blinkers for the first time which could also aid his cause. Maazel arrives in decent form and is likely to give another solid account, while Rivas Rob Roy, who finished behind Lee Carter's gelding at Lingfield last month, completes the shortlist.

Course specialist Roy Rocket bids for his 10th career success, all his previous nine coming at this track, and he is down on his last winning mark from last August. That said, he will need to improve a fair amount from his return at Kempton last month and recent Lingfield winner THE JEAN GENIE gets the nod. She got off the mark at the 14th attempt earlier in the month and could well improve again having acquitted herself well in the past on turf. Stormingin finished second on his return to the Flat at Lingfield last month and is capable of going close off his current mark.

MONGOLIA put in a career best when finishing third on her handicap debut over a mile at Kempton eight days ago. The lightly-raced filly may still be improving and could be hard to beat, especially as the step up in trip should also be in her favour. Contingency Fee is an obvious threat based on his win at Southwell on Wednesday and Iley Boy could also go well.

LUNAR DEITY has been in very good form on the all-weather recently and he arrives here just 1lb higher in the ratings than his last victory on turf, which came last August at York. With most of his rivals arriving here in questionable form it is hard to oppose the veteran. Zephyros has to be respected in first-time blinkers, while With Approval, a dual C&D winner, is the pick of the remainder.
