Third in the Coventry Stakes last year, Sergei Prokofiev appeared to appreciate the drop back in trip when winning a Group 3 here in October, as well as the Listed Cork Stakes over an extended 5f on his recent return to action. He could get a nice tow into the race from Major Jumbo and Ornate, though preference is for MABS CROSS to repeat her victory in this race (with Judicial second) 12 months ago. She is penalised for her Group 1 victory in the Prix de l'Abbaye but brings the best form to the table and should give it her best shot regardless.

Defoe won this contest 12 months ago on the back of a reappearance victory in the John Porter but he was fourth in the same race three weeks ago and might be worth taking on in a deeper-looking renewal. Young Rascal was fifth behind Defoe at Newbury so the suggested alternative is the returning CORONET, who won first time out last year and underlined her class when signing off last year with a Group 1 second at Ascot on Champions Day. Mildenberger slipped as the stalls opened at Epsom 10 days ago but is better judged on his preceding Dante second to Roaring Lion and could also figure, given he's unexposed over 1m4f.

This is one of the most open 2000 Guineas in a long time but the marginal preference is for TEN SOVEREIGNS, who completed his unbeaten juvenile season with a victory in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes over 6f here in late September. He certainly has the class to win a race of this nature but the step up in trip has to be a slight concern. If the son of No Nay Never were to fail to see out the extra couple of furlongs then his stablemate Magna Grecia could be the main beneficiary. The Vertem Futurity Trophy winner is a certain stayer and his only defeat came when a neck second to Persian King in the Autumn Stakes over C&D in October. Skardu narrowly defeated Momkin in the Craven here last month but both will have to step up to take this stronger event. Madhmoon was a beaten favourite on his return but it is too soon to be writing him off, while Great Scot and Urban Icon could go best of those at bigger odds.

Princes Des Sables progressed nicely last term and could have further improvement in the pipeline this year, though with the benefit of a recent run to his name, MAWAKIB gets the verdict. Roger Varian's charge finished an outpaced fourth over this trip at Kempton last time and could appreciate the stiffer nature of this track. Jackstar disappointed in the Craven but isn't one to give up on yet, with a mark of 90 appearing workable now he goes handicapping.

UAE JEWEL was heavily supported in the market prior to making a winning debut in the Wood Ditton over a mile here last month. That form was boosted when the fourth, who was beaten over 11 lengths, won easily at Pontefract on Wednesday. The son of Dubawi obviously faces a tougher test here but it would be no surprise to see him maintain his unbeaten record. Walkinthesand only found Kick On (runs in the 2000 Guineas) a neck too good in the Feilden Stakes a couple of weeks ago and he appears to be the main threat to the selection. Beatboxer failed to fire in the Royal Lodge when last seen but it is too soon to be writing him off, while Persian Moon lacks the scope for improvement that his rivals have.

MORDRED did not appear to get home on his first start over 1m2f at this track last time out but he was not disgraced on that occasion. The drop back to a mile is an obvious positive and his current mark of 94 appears to be workable. Global Warning has to be shortlisted following his impressive Newcastle win last month, while Alkaamel and Fox Leicester are others with strong form claims.
