Both Ruby Wonder and Azteca impressed when finishing second on their respective last starts over this course and distance, but while Azteca has a plum draw in stall one, Ruby Wonder will have to work wonders to overcome her wide berth. Scotch Corner is interesting on debut, but DYLAN DE VEGA kept on really well for second at Nottingham and can build on that initial effort and go one better here.

David O'Meara must be cursing his luck with the draw here as his Ruby Wonder has stall 10 in the first division and his Infinite Grace, a good second at Ripon on debut, is berthed in stall nine in this contest. In contrast, Richard Fahey has a plum draw for his runner in the first division and his MR FUDGE bounces out of trap three here, which could enable him to improve on his debut second at Leicester. Littleton Hall has been going well on the all-weather recently, while Yarrow Gate could be the pick of the newcomers for Michael Dods.

AMAZING ALBA was much too keen on her seasonal reappearance at Nottingham, but that run could have taken the freshness out of her, while the application of a hood could make her more compliant too. A 2lb lower mark also adds to her appeal and she is preferred ahead of Montalvan, who is better than he showed on his return at Thirsk. One One Seven was ahead of the selection at Nottingham but has a difficult draw to overcome this afternoon.

Muatadel ran well for third at Redcar last time but that came over 6f and his recent record over this trip is less encouraging. It is imperative that a horse stays well at this venue, due to the stiff finish, so ABUSHAMAH gets the vote. Ruth Carr's gelding had been running over an extended mile at Wolverhampton before the return to this trip and turf saw him get within half a length of success at Doncaster last time. Cameo Star could come on for his reappearance at Thirsk, but he will certainly need to.

To say VENTURA GOLD has hit the ground running this season would be an understatement, as he struck on his reappearance at Leicester and followed up 15 days later at Musselburgh. The narrow margins of victory may mean the handicapper hasn't got to grips with him yet and he can get the better of Where's Jeff, who was not far away on his return at Nottingham. Breathable won over this C&D last term and could go well, though he is likely to need this first run since September.

MONT KINABALU followed up his Pontefract victory with a close-up second to Ventura Gold at Musselburgh last time and although he's been raised 2lb for that latest defeat, he appears to be in the sort of form needed to score. Storm Ahead signed off last season with a good third at Nottingham and commands respect, while Enzemble showed up well in a couple of starts at Kempton in February and looks a threat for Newmarket handler James Fanshawe.

The three Newmarket-trained runners appear to be the ones to focus on. Illumined holds an entry in the Ribblesdale Stakes so is evidently held in high regard by John Gosden, while Maktabba was sent off favourite on debut for William Haggas and is bred to relish this sort of test. Simon Crisford's MANNAAL gets the vote, though, as she won nicely on debut and was sent off a short-priced favourite for a Listed race at HQ after that. Though beaten into fourth on the latter occasion, there were signs of encouragement to take from her performance.

Kensington Art ran respectably on his return to action at Redcar but he was still some way behind Lexikon, who might be able to confirm her superiority despite reopposing on worse terms. Termonator won a Southwell handicap last time but has to prove his effectiveness on turf, so preference is for MOLLY MAI. Philip McBride's filly has placed on turf in the past and finished on the heels of the winner when third at Wolverhampton last time.
